Blog Subject: | Panzerzug loco and tender remodelled |
In order to accomodate the Stanier 8F loco and tender that I'm using instead of a BR 57, the loco and tender have had to be adjusted to acommodate the additional length and different wheel positions. I've tried to keep the overall as close as possible, with the armour panel edges at midpoints between axles and the access hatches on the loco centred on the driving wheels. At the top is the original model, below is the extended version to fit the 8F. And here are the unfolded versions ready to print. Finally a shot of the half train model with the extended loco: Tags: Panzerzug • Model Railway |

Blog Subject: | German armoured train hits first hurdle ... |
I've managed to get a Hornby 8F locomotive + tender to base the Panzerzug on (it should be a German BR 57 0-10-0 locomotive but they're pretty expensive!), but now it's arrived I've found a couple of problems. The first is that I didn't realise it was a tender drive set I was getting, so I can't use the chassis I already had for the tender. The second is that the loco and tender are both a bit longer than the Panzerzug - while I could get out my dremel and trim them down to close to the right size, my son has decided that he likes the 8F too so the train will now be interchangeable; the 8F tender shell will be removed to put on the Panzerzug tender shell as the 8F shell is too high to cover over, and the loco shell will be built to fit over the existing 8F shell with about 15mm longer armour and clearance for the front bogey, allowing it to run as a German train or as a British steam train both in the 1942-1945 period. ... Blog Subject: | Panzerzug is back on track ... |
With a chassis for the train on it's way from eBay, the Panzerzug project will be moving again later this week. I've just noticed that I didn't post a pic of the Tiger card tank, it's still not complete but here's one with the Jagdpanther and a 1/72 Spitfire for scale. Tags: Railway • Panzerzug • Paper Tanks |

Blog Subject: | Panzerzug "Panzerjagerwagen" WIP |
Started work on the 1st variant of the Panzerjagerwagen, a flat railcar with Pz IV turret mounted on a raised section. This railcar sits at the very end of the train, using it's plough to remove barricades from the railway and it's turret to fight off attacks. The rear of the chassis is heavily slanted so that the ramp from the Pz 38t well wagon fits underneath it - when the tank needs to be deployed the Panzerjagerwagon is detached and rolled forward, leaving a gap for the Pz 38t to drive down the ramp and out on patrol. And a shot of the BP44 half train with all the railcars in position, including the Panzertriebwagen 51 between the artillery/flak railcar and the well wagon carrying the Pz 38t. And finally a shot of the entire BP44 train (note that there's only one Panzertriebwagen 51 in the rear... [ Continued ] Tags: Panzerzug • Railway |

Blog Subject: | Panzerzug "Panzertragerwagen" WIP |
Managed to start on the Panzertragerwagen wagon, which is a well wagon with folding forward ramp that is designed to carry a Pz 38t light tank. This wagon sits between the Artillery/Flak railcar and the Panzerjagerwagen (flat wagon with Pz IV turret). Still needs some work around the top of the ramp, and buffers adding. |
