Minecraft Sword

by Spack on Sat Feb 01, 2014 1:57 pm
So my son wanted a Minecraft sword to run around the house with. I've managed to stay well away from Minecraft, but decided to make him one out of cardboard instead of dropping a large amount of cash on a foam one. It was pretty easy to find a large picture of a sword on Google, and then print it out on a couple of sheets of A4 paper. These were then glued to some scrap cardboard from a box using spray mount.

After allowing to dry this was then cut out using a steel rule and a scalpel. As it's a little thin a second one was made, and then these glued back to back with the edges coloured using felt pen. Finally cellotape was wrapped around it to help protect it against all the bumps it will get while it's swung around, and to stop the two halves coming apart.

Reforming The Guard

by Jay on Tue Dec 25, 2012 5:13 pm
Earlier this year I talked about how my guard army is well anything but an army, it's basically a couple hundred upainted/stripped models with bits missing and all kinds of amateurish conversions that in retrospect are total crap. I also had the problem of getting the Ebay itch back when I started the hobby in '07 (I blame King and his wonderful FW cupboard) also it didn't help that Apoc came out roughly the same time and thus I ended up with more Leman russes and Chimeras then I know what todo with. I also hate the Russ design. This leads me to several problems. I've got way to many unpainted, half destroyed models and with the recent small revolution in bitz providers, I have surplus models and kit! So I've decided to sell most of my guard and start again from scratch, well not total scratch.

My plan is pretty simple, use up all the loose bits of cadian kits I don't intend to use and put together a couple of 'Battleforce' boxes worth of points, paint and dip and flog on ebay. In the...

BA Blog 10th March More Vehicles.

by Cain Tiberius on Sat Mar 10, 2012 10:29 pm
Greetings peeps. Finally got the other 2 Rhinos and the Landraider from my old force painted up. Pretty strait forward really, no complex resorations or conversions.

Rhino's for the 5th and 6th Squads. No razor option as the lids where already glued down.

The Landraider I simply darkened up in the same manor as the old squads. I redid some of the detail and added more to bring it into line with the rest of my vehicles.

Model Railway Lighting

by Spack on Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:03 pm
Some time ago when I first started building the model railway for my son I said I could add street lights to the layout. I duly spent hours making 2 very simple street lights, but this was somewhat lacking especially as they were quite dull. Today I finally removed them, and installed 20 white LEDs in street lights, station lights, and some interior lighting in buildings. These LEDs were prewired and had resistors fitted ready to use with 12V DC power (which I already had thanks to a left over Netgear router power supply), and cost less than buying the component parts to build myself. After 6 solid hours of work today the lighting is complete!

Take one bendy straw and trim it down to size. Bend a prewired LED, and slide into the straw. Street light complete :D The station lights are made the same way but with much shorter poles.
