Announcing the "BER" event

Announcing the "BER" event

Postby timewizard » Fri Jul 19, 2013 12:40 am

All right everyone, it's time to find those unopened, half started, incomplete plastic model kits that you started, lost interest in and threw on a shelf or under a table somewhere. Now is your chance to finally finish those poor neglected projects you have been avoiding and breathe new life into them.

What follows is what we are calling the "BER Special".

Gaming Figures is pleased to announce and sponsor a special modeling and painting event. It is called the "BER Special", a special event that will be held during the months that end in 'ber'. The owners of Gaming Figures have offered a prize fund of £150 for this contest. This prize can only be redeemed in GW plastic kits and must be collected in person from PC Tech. If the winner is unable to collect their prize in person, an organizer of the event will collect it on their behalf and ship it to them.

This contest will be a separate stand alone contest not to be confused with the ongoing Painter of the Month event. The final results of this contest do not count in any way towards the points in the POTM event. This special contest will have the following rules and criteria;

All entries must be Games Workshop plastic kits. They may be from any Games Workshop model range, 40K, WFB, LOTR or the Hobbit. No finecast, metal or forge world entries, in full or in part, are allowed. Brass etch pieces of any kind are similarly not allowed.

Conversion work on the model is acceptable, but all parts and bits must be from Games Workshop plastic kits. Kits and bits or parts thereof from any other company or manufacturer will not be allowed or accepted including 3rd party custom resin bases. This does not exclude standard conversion materials such as plasticard, greenstuff, milliput, wood, basing materials and the like. Contestants must submit a WIP picture of any converted model prior to priming to show only allowed components were used. If an entrant is in doubt about a material, a PM can be sent to timewizard or Talus requesting a clarification.

To enter, a photo of the kit(s) to be entered must be placed in this (or a future) thread after September 1, 2013. Entries will be accepted only for the first 15 days of September, 2013.

Entrants have up to the last day of November to build and finish their project. A picture of the finished entry can be uploaded to the "BER Special" gallery anytime after the 15th of September. Multiple images can be included in the picture but only 1 picture per entry and only 1 entry per registered site member are permitted. On November 30, 2013 the contest thread will be locked and voting will commence.

Voting will take place during the first 10 days of December, 2013. Only registered members of Age of Strife will be permitted to enter and vote in this event. If you are a member of another site receiving this, the link to join AOS is http://www.ageofstrife.com and new members are always welcome.
Failure to comply with any of these rules will result in disqualification from this event.

The winner will be announced on the 11th of December giving you time to get a nice Christmas present for yourself from Gaming Figures!

The prizes will be:

First Place - £65
Second Place - £50
Third Place - £35

Right. After a team discussion, it was decided to unlock this thread for questions and comments, so feel free to do so.

Please do not attempt to post any actual entries until the official start of the contest.

And many thanks to the gents at Gaming Figures for sponsoring this event and putting forth the prizes! Cheers to them!

So everyone knows

the number of votes that people get will depend on the number of entrants to submit a final picture

blatant copy and paste here:

Every registered member of the site may vote. The total number of votes each member may cast will depend on the number of entrants as follows;
Up to 5 entries - 1 vote per registered member
6 to 10 entries - 2 votes per registered member
More than 10 entries - 3 votes per registered member
You can change your vote(s) until the poll is closed. No poll results will be revealed (even to the moderators) until the poll has closed.

we figure, why broke what isnt fixed =D

given the length of this contest, i have a few expectations from you people!

conversions! get em done!

even if you dont want to paint something, but have a very nice idea for a kitbash, get it done, get it entered and submit it!

while these contests may be based around painting, its not essential!

Remember, we want you to be voting for the quality of the work done, so for example, if something has a beautiful converted part, but a substandard paint job, vote for that converted part!

theres 3 months to work on an entry, so make them good ones guys!

I've a 1/2 started conversion littering various bitz boxes around a storage bin somewhere. Can I enter a project I've already started?

As long as it is all GW plastic kits and the conversion contains no parts from any other company, then yes, it is allowed.

Parts from GW plastic kits are allowed for the conversion work as well.

One other point, the entry and/or any conversion work should not include any finished bits, kits or parts. Everyone is going to have to be on their honor on this point.

Let's keep this fair and honorable all!

Good questions and comments. Thanks all.

TO make it fair, clear and above board, the following is being added to the contest rules (BER event only).

"Contestants must submit a WIP picture of any converted model prior to priming to show only allowed components were used."

Remember that this is a three month contest, so there will be plenty of time to do this all up.

so, stretching the rules here then, could I make a greenstuff mold of a FW piece (e.g. a resin Blood Angels icon), cast it in GS then use that instead?

you are welcome to hand sculpt it, but casting it with greenstuff, would still be using a forge world piece, it would also be copyright infringement against forgeworld, which neither this site, nor this contest, will allow

using recast pieces would result in immediate disqualification from the contest
