AOS Painter of the Month Competition - June 2013

AOS Painter of the Month Competition - June 2013

Postby Talus » Sat Jun 01, 2013 11:47 pm

Welcome to the June 2013 Painter of the Month Competition.

Each contestant must submit a photo of an unopened box, unassembled model or unpainted model or models or submit a drawing or photo describing the project into the "Painter of the Month April 2013" thread. Primed only models are acceptable but completely unprimed models are preferred. All genres of modeling are acceptable; i.e. any 40K, WFB, LOTR, FoW, plastic, metal, paper or collectable model as well as any scratch built project including terrain pieces. On the 15th of month, a list will be posted by one of the moderators listing all eligible contestants for that month's competition. No entries will be accepted after that post. No exceptions.

During the month, wip photos can be put into the thread, and in fact are encouraged, but may not be placed in the competition gallery.

All completed entries must be submitted between the 15th and the 27th of June and must posted in the competition gallery. No entries will be accepted after midnight GMT on June 27th. Only one entry per person will be permitted and the entry must consist of a single image. Multiple photos on the image are allowable but if more than one photo is uploaded to the gallery by any one entrant at any time, that entrant will be disqualified.

Voting will be held from June 28th until midnight GMT on June 30th. At that time voting will be closed and the winners will be announced.

Every registered member of the site may vote. The total number of votes each member may cast will depend on the number of entrants as follows;
Up to 5 entries - 1 vote per registered member
6 to 10 entries - 2 votes per registered member
More than 10 entries - 3 votes per registered member
You can change your vote(s) until the poll is closed. No poll results will be revealed (even to the moderators) until the poll has closed.

The first place winner will be named the "Painter of the Month" and will be listed on the site. In addition, first place gets 3 points, 2nd place 2 points and third place 1 point.

In the event of a tie for any place or position, both entrants will receive the appropriate number of points. At the end of the year a "Painter of the Year" as well as the 2nd and 3rd place finishers will be announced. The winner will be determined by the total number of points received throughout the year.
If an entrant has not completed their project by the deadline, they may still enter an incomplete entry if desired, but it will of course be judged as such. The only requirement is to post the entry by the deadline. The members of the site have the final word after all!

We are still working on getting prizes for the year end winners. More on that as it becomes known.

Good luck to all the contestants!

Since building the Thunderhawk, I'd had the idea of a crashed Hawk. And obviously FW had to go and do one >.< But I'd thought about making it a little more wrecked. If you've played Space Marine, you'll know what I mean about the wrecked Hawk on Shattered Bridge.

I do intend doing several pieces of wreckage scenery, but I don't know how long each piece will take, so I'm just going to enter one for now.

Man, you guys all do all your jibberflappingjaw aching chattboxing in these threads.. so I figure.. if the conversation won't be aboot playing games the gamer shall come to the chattboxxing thread.

Aim is to skip pieces 50-65 and have it in flight... only issue is adlibbing a base , probably using twisted thick copper wire... Update probably tommmrow as kids will return to school and give me a bit of time to kitbash (if anything fits its a 1:72 or something)
Oh its a europfighter.. the co-op near me was closing down so it was £6.50

Well no kids, but gout flaring up.. on the plus side... the pain kind of gives me nervous energy.. so I've been quite productive.

So lets see, assembled all the bits I wanted to.. its fiddly this tiny things stuff.
Got some copper cable, realised it wasn't strong enough.. wove it together.. Cut a small piece of wood , drilled two holes in it.. stuck cable through it (and stuck piece of wood to dining room table).
(Noob error avoided in that I haven't stuck the clear plastic canopy down before spraying)

Next step. cover base with rocks (fish tank stones from attic).. glue the crap out of it to reinforce base and add some weight... Then wait until this afternoon when it should be dry enough (glue is dripping from it) to spray grey to start any painting.

Looking good KMB. I was watching one of these being tested at Warton near Lytham - Saint Anne's on Friday. Kept doing fly bys, landing just enough for all the wheels to touch the Tarmac. And then blasting off again, doing a circle and repeating several times.
They have to be the loudest aircraft I've ever heard when after burning. At Southport Airshow last September, they had a single Eurofighter, and it was 10+ times louder than 7 Red Arrow Hawks put together.

Nice KMB. I've got one of those in the attic in 1/48 scale waiting to be built, along with an F-22 Raptor 1/48 - both aircraft that I worked on while I was on my year out at Uni working at Dowty Aerospace in Wolverhampton (they built the foreplane actuators on the Typhoon, and I think one of the rear aileron actuators on the F-22) ; as well as main wing actuators on the Airbus A330/340 and Boeing 777, and rear aileron Learjet 45 :) One of my friend's, who used to be here on AoS back when it first started, was (and possibly still is - been out of contact for a long time) Eurofighter project manager at BAE Warton.

keeping with the 'aero' theme, this month I too shall enter a model plane - Messerschmitt bf109e 1:24 scale airfix kit.
I have some history with this model, I first got one of these for Christmas when I was 11 and it was the only model that I never finished, it sat in the loft at my mams for nearly 20 years mocking me with its half-finishedness before I finally binned it when my parents moved house.
my father-in-law bought me this kit for Christmas last year not knowing it was my childhood nemesis and it has sat in my spare room ever since. I think its about time I slayed this dragon

Well, I seem to be cursed with the guillotine.
After getting work done on it, we had a death in the family, and then I got hit with the flu.
I think I'll finish it up anyway, but I'm not going to try to enter it again.
So instead, for this month, it will be....

Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet.

Looks like a bit of filling and sanding work to do, then to come up with a color that is the same as how he appeared in the movie.

But this one I hope to finish.
