markb wrote:Just a quick one. When you say unpainted can you have them undercoated? The reason I'm asking is that when I go back to work I have to pre undercoat any models I take back to me due to not being able to take spray paints on a plane ( I've been collared at Dubai airport before for this!).

We had wanted un-painted models to keep the playing field even and Spack had asked as well if primed or undercoated models would be allowed.

Is there any way you could take a pic of the models before you undercoat them?

You actually do have 3 weeks to submit the finished project.

You have to enter before the 15th. This is done to see how many entrants there will be and to keep anyone from "jumping in" last minute like if they see there are very very entries.

It also gives the moderators a chance to review the entry to make sure it qualifies.

And voting is actually only 4 days, the 23rd to the 27th.

But this is the first month, and we are still tweaking the competition format as we go. All suggestions and concerns will be discussed. Please keep em coming!

In response to markb and Spack's concerns about primed models, the moderators have ammended the rules to include primed only models, but completely unprimed models are still preferred. Models that are painted and are going to be repainted need to be stripped as completely as possible before being entered. You don't have to go nuts and make sure each and every fleck of paint has been removed, but it should be obvious that the old paint job has been removed.

This is because the intent of this competition is to open it up to as many members as possible, not to limit it. That's why any modeling genre is allowed.

We want to see the entries in their raw form to make sure they comply with the rules and to give the voters a chance to see the "before and after" images.

Right. So far 4 contestants, hopefully markb and Spack will jump in.

I'm in, but haven't picked a model yet. Have been out working all day today setting up at an exhibition, and will be away for a few days at another in London until Thursday. I'll see if I can post up a pic of the model I choose tomorrow, if not it'll be next weekend. But I'm in for sure :)

Bob, remember that all aspects of modeling are eligible. For example, you could do the terrain portion of the diorama one month and the figures the next.

The completed diorama couldn't be entered unless it was all done in one month, but it would qualify as 2 projects, 2 different month's entries, and will help kick start you into getting it finished!

Just a thought!

Okay, in between reading the posts here, I managed to get some work done on my entry.

I've now got all 7 vehicles primed along with the crew of the jeep.

Image

Now I've got to clean up and prime the 12 crew members of the M10 tank destroyers!

I must be mad for getting into 15mm minis! And madder still for picking some open-topped AFVs!

Ok...

I will enter Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas.

I got eager (I haven't painted anything in about 18 months!)

So here are my unprepared models:

I also...almost finished Gimli!

This is fun.

Tomorrow night should be Legolas I thinks... then I can work on Aragorn next weekend

Very nice work Bob!

And you've been added to the first page!

One other note, those finecast models look like a lot better quality than the last few batches I got.
Did they arrive as good as they look?
No wraping, voids, air bubbles, etc?
Just curious if GW has improved on their quality control.

It's a perfect set, thankfully.

All the fine cast stuff has been for me, from Necrons onwards fortunately. It's very nice to paint on, once cleaned up. Legolas tonight!

well its time for me to bump this!

sadly i dont have anything major done yet, ive had trouble finding time where i could get the airbrush set up and have enough time off work to actually use it!

so for now, its just the hands that have paint on them! im trying to avoid my usual marine skin tone, so ive mixed and mixed, and this is what i came up with

im also wanting to avoid washing them (insert timewizard joke here)

see here:

ImageImage

and here, we have what i had to do to the arms... some bright spark decided to put the seem between the two halves straight through detailing! and as much as i tried... i couldnt fix it, so plan C! that is... C for Cover :P

Image

this is what it should have looked like (details redrawn)

providing i get to put paint to model tomorrow, updates tomorrow!
