AOS Painter of the Month Competition - September 2013

AOS Painter of the Month Competition - September 2013

Postby timewizard » Sat Aug 31, 2013 5:33 pm

Welcome to the September 2013 Painter of the Month Competition. Changes from last month's post are in red.

Each contestant must submit a photo of an unopened box, unassembled model or unpainted model or models or submit a drawing or photo describing the project into the "Painter of the Month September 2013" thread by September the 10th. Primed only models are acceptable but completely unprimed models are preferred. All genres of modeling are acceptable; i.e. any 40K, WFB, LOTR, FoW, plastic, metal, paper or collectable model as well as any scratch built project including terrain pieces. A list will be posted by one of the moderators in this post listing all eligible contestants for the month's competition. No entries will be accepted or can be changed after the 10th of September. No exceptions.

During the month, wip photos can be put into the thread, and in fact are encouraged, but may not be placed in the competition gallery.

All completed entries must be submitted by the 27th of September and must posted in the competition gallery. No entries will be accepted after midnight GMT on September 27th. Only one entry per person will be permitted and the entry must consist of a single image. Multiple photos on the image are allowable but if more than one photo is uploaded to the gallery by any one entrant at any time, that entrant will be disqualified.

If an entrant has not completed their project by the deadline, they may still enter an incomplete entry if desired, but it will of course be judged as such. The only requirement is to post the entry by the deadline. The members of the site have the final word after all!

Voting will be held from just after midnight September 27th until midnight GMT on September 29th. At that time voting will be closed and the winners will be announced.

Every registered member of the site may vote. The total number of votes each member may cast will depend on the number of entrants as follows;
Up to 5 entries - 1 vote per registered member
6 to 10 entries - 2 votes per registered member
More than 10 entries - 3 votes per registered member
You can change your vote(s) until the poll is closed. No poll results will be revealed (even to the moderators) until the poll has closed.

The first place winner will be named the "Painter of the Month" and will be listed on the site. At the end of the year a "Painter of the Year" will be chosen. The winner will be determined by a site vote poll for all previous 1st place monthly winners. In addition, there will be separate vote polls for all previous monthly 2nd and 3rd place winners, with overall 2nd place and 3rd place finishers being chosen and announced.

The prize for winning this competition will be the satisfaction of completing your project and the notice and accolades of the members and visitors to the Age of Strife. That plus permission to add the title "AOS Painter of the Year 2013" to your signature.

Good luck to all the contestants!

IMPORTANT!
Please be sure to read the first post.

Due to the feedback on "The Future of AOS contests", the prize for the Painter of the Year as well as the selection process for that winner have been significantly changed. Thanks to all who took the time to comment and to provide some ideas!

I'm not sure this will qualify as they are not primed. I'm currently in the middle of repainting my entire Tau army and as such I'm painting over (stripping only when I absolutly have to) my old colour sceme. These are my old Broadsides converted into Missilesides making sure the base was adding enough hight to match the new models. I'm doing some green stuffing at the moment. Then they will recive a base colour and fresh paint over the whole model. Nothing of the current paint will remain.... I will understand if these are not acceptable, but as I was doing them anyway I thought I'd try. Image

@Darklighter, just simply submit another picture when they are primed. That will do fine.

Okay, sorry for the double post, but here's my entry for the September POTM event.

Image

It's a piece called "Burn!" by Verlinden.

This is my first ever resin piece (yeah, I know!) so I'm a bit nervous working with this stuff. I know it has to be washed really well before priming.
Hopefully I won't screw the whole thing up!

I have an updated Photo for you all to see. I've finished basecoating the main armour and added the base for the black mechanical areas.

so, got a slight update here folks

the riders, as of this morning, are finished!

well, kinda, a few small spots of black need to be fixed up from where the metallics rubbed off on them, but they're done!

Image

also, the birds are built, the seats are magnetised (so they can be changed to riderless birds) and we're all good to go!

only thing stopping me working is the base, the filler around the crater isnt dry yet, so i cant paint it :(

and i cant get to work on the birds till i have a base to put them on

but fear not! i'll have more done by the end of the week =)

the base is STILL drying, not that i really expected much to change today, but hey, i'll have it painted by the end of the week, or pull my hair out about it, we'll see =P

so i got the pins sorted out for them

now, i rather despise the clear plastic flying stands everything uses, so, im going with brass rods painted black (honestly, i think that looks a whole lot better than a thick chunk of plastic)

and this way, i have more control over the length

i gs'd over the holes that were already there, drilled new ones, stuck the heads on the birds and went to work with the rods

folded around at the bottom, will cut a recess into the bottom of the base for them to sit in, give it a little more stability (worst case, a second place matt underneath, but thats hardly a loss, 4 of them cost me £2 in argos :P)

Image

no real reason for the fire bird to be flying lower than the ice, in fact depending on how the base comes out (lots of red) i'll switch them around to avoid it all blending together
