Thanks Nigel

My update to the Back to basics list is as follows (I have the models for this list)

Standard Army
Clash: 1494/1500 points
Standard Army
  • Standard Roster [1494/1500 pts]
    • Field Command [292 pts]
      • Kodiak: Kodiak(Lieutenant) [168 pts]
      • Praetorians: 2x Praetorians, Raven A [124 pts]
    • Armored Formation [423 pts]
      • Sabre Squad: 6x Sabre, Albatross [288 pts]
      • ^ Sharing ^ Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier [135 pts]
    • Armored Formation [408 pts]
      • Katana Squad: 6x Katana, 2x Condor [242 pts]
      • Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier, Condor [166 pts]
    • Legionnaire Corps [299 pts]
      • Legionnaires: 3x Legionnaires, Condor, 2x Bear [141 pts]
      • ^ Sharing ^ Legionnaires: 3x Legionnaires [78 pts]
      • Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
    • Expeditionary Group [72 pts]
      • Wolverine Squad: 4x Wolverine A [72 pts]

This puts all my eggs in the one basket with the Albsross but I think I could get away with it

Or as an alternative (I cant do back to basics :-( )

Standard Army
Clash: 1498/1500 points
Standard Army
  • Standard Roster [1498/1500 pts]
    • Field Command [364 pts]
      • Kodiak: Kodiak(Lieutenant) [168 pts]
      • Praetorians: 2x Praetorians, Raven A [124 pts]
      • Wolverine Squad: 4x Wolverine A [72 pts]
    • Armored Formation [423 pts]
      • Sabre Squad: 6x Sabre, Albatross [288 pts]
      • ^ Sharing ^ Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier [135 pts]
    • Legionnaire Corps [219 pts]
      • Legionnaires: 3x Legionnaires, Condor, 2x Bear [141 pts]
      • ^ Sharing ^ Legionnaires: 3x Legionnaires [78 pts]
    • Special Ordnance [315 pts]
      • Gladius Squad: 2x Gladius, Condor [149 pts]
      • Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier, Condor [166 pts]
    • Special Ordnance [177 pts]
      • Scimitar Squad: 2x Scimitar, Condor [131 pts]
      • Falcon Squad: Falcon [46 pts]

This one gives me less shots but they are all E10 and spreads the heavy firepower around the table a bit more.
The Falcon has a 12" range E11 weapon and can move 24" or 12" move and fire which would suffer to AA but would be a good transport hunter.

The gladius can be insta killed with a high energy shot but an insta kill is wasted on a sabre.
the scimitar is a good anti-phr vehicle. It cuts down movement and can reach out and touch those back of the board lurkers. Id rather have scimitars as they do what the sabres can't.

yes but I just discovered this last game I had.

Each weapon can be fired at a different target. So I'm looking at my Odins again in a different light. They can shoot one weapon left at unit X and another weapon to the right into Squad Y. Potential damage output is massive now.

2 odins, shooting can hit Squad a,b,c and d. All in different archs of their weapons and potentially killing 4 different targets.

And the Gladius can move and shoot and has a turret.

Getting the thread back on topic (it was me who started it :) ), as I said in the other thread I am now torn between UCM and Scourge. Here is anopther 1500 pt list for UCM I have come up with.

5th Century, 8th Cohort, XI Legion - 1500pts
Clash: 1498/1500 points
Standard Army
  • Standard Roster [1498/1500 pts]
    • Field Command [303 pts]
      • Kodiak: Kodiak(Lieutenant) [168 pts]
      • Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier [135 pts]
    • Armored Formation [284 pts]
      • Sabre Squad: 6x Sabre, 2x Condor [284 pts]
    • Legionnaire Corps [379 pts]
      • Legionnaires: 3x Legionnaires, Condor, 2x Bear [141 pts]
      • ^ Sharing ^ Legionnaires: 3x Legionnaires [78 pts]
      • Ferrum: Ferrum [160 pts]
    • Expeditionary Group [226 pts]
      • Wolverine Squad: 4x Wolverine A, 2x Raven B [102 pts]
      • Praetorians: 2x Praetorians, Raven A [124 pts]
    • Special Ordnance [239 pts]
      • Gladius Squad: 2x Gladius, Condor [149 pts]
      • Longbow Squad: 2x Longbow, 2x Raven B(+Missile Pods) [90 pts]
    • Air Wing [67 pts]
      • Archangel Squad: Archangel [67 pts]

This one uses a mix of the 2 Player Starter Set, the 1500 pt army deal and a few units I would have to buy.

If you hadn't put them together I'd have had them off you! I don't like painting fully assembled models as I like to be able to get in to everywhere properly with a brush.

The chassis are built on the tanks, and the condors are built, but the canopies are on their sprues. Troops are still on their sprues too. Kodiak and Bears are just blocks - no nooks to get into! I didnt put everything together for the same reason.

that last list is almost what chris brought last night, and he beat me :(

he had same amount of infantry bases, but only is squads of two in small dropships. they helped him win the intel searching mission - recon, that we played.

Lol here's a your 1500 UCM list Chris for the tourney. ;)

BTW, here is the list I'm building towards at 1500. I think this list is actually going to be stronger, since it has already paid the "tax" of the Kodiak and standard AT unit. This list has a lot more infantry and a level 4 commander, which should mean it's at less of a disadvantage at winning turn initiative:

4x Ferrum 5x Infantry
Clash: 1498/1500 points
Standard Army
Standard Roster [1498/1500 pts]
Field Command [487 pts]
Kodiak: Kodiak(Captain) [203 pts]
Ferrum: Ferrum [180 pts]
Praetorians: 2x Praetorians, Raven A [124 pts]
Armored Formation [291 pts]
Ferrum: Ferrum [180 pts]
Katana Squad: 3x Katana, Condor(+Missile Pods) [131 pts]
Legionnaire Corps [320 pts]
Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
Ferrum: Ferrum [180 pts]
Legionnaire Corps [320 pts]
Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
Ferrum: Ferrum [180 pts]

Im just posting to retrack my previous statement regarding the Gladius.
Having playtested them I realise that I had been playing them wrong before and now i do rate them.

Im off to eat my words.

How had you been playing them wrong bud? Or what are you doing right with them now?

Due to lack of opponents, I've only fielded my Gladius' once and they got munched by 4 Shaltari Terrantulas :/ But to be fair, Terrantulas are made to take out heavy stuff.
