Objective Marker Competition #5 - Ammunition Store

The results are in! First place was taken by General_Lee, second place by BugBait, and third by Jimster. Congratulations!

Chosen Prizes:
General_Lee: Ork Skwadron Kommander
Bugbait_NZ: Thunderbolt Pilot
Jimster: Reaver Titan Princeps

Prize: The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placed winners of this competition will each get to choose one of the following figures, brand new and still sealed in blister/foil/bag:

Rules

- Entrants must be registered with the Age of Strife site, so if you're just browsing then please register to be eligible to enter.

- Closing date for entries is 2359 GMT on Monday 1st June 2009.

- The base size should be of a reasonable size for use in a game - the suggestion is no larger than a CD/DVD (around 12cm diameter). They must start as plain bases with no pre made stuff on them (so no Dreadnought bases, for instance). Standard GW 25mm, 40mm, and 60mm bases are also acceptable.

- One entry per person. It must be painted, and in the event of a dispute about the ownership of an entry proof will be required (hopefully this won't be required, but if you don't have the entry in your possession after the competition is over then you may be disqualified if proof is required and you are unable to provide it).

- WIP Photos are up to the people themselves, helps keep the thread alive and makes others worry if they are behind (WIP in this thread only). However, it may be prudent to take photos as you are building your entry for posting after the competition is over (so you can show other members how you created your entry) and in the event of a dispute about an entry could be used as proof of ownership and construction materials.

- Publish WIP photos as replies to this topic, final entry photo to be uploaded in the assigned gallery album http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/AoSCommunity07 before the closing date. Entries cannot be accepted after voting has started.

- ONLY ONE PHOTO PER ENTRY ALLOWED IN THE COMPETITION ALBUM! If you want to show more views of it, just create a collage with all the pics in a single uploaded image. If you don't know how to do this, feel free to PM Spack and if there's enough time help may be provided. Uploading multiple pictures may result in disqualification, or at the very least dispatch of an Inquisitor (with fully armed Retinue) to your current location.

- Once the entry date has passed voting will run for 7 days. You will be able to vote for your top three favourites! Choose wisely as you will only get one chance to vote. NO VOTING FOR YOUR OWN ENTRY!!! (dispatch of Inquisitor, blah blah ...).

- All entrants are required to vote for 3 other entries (assuming at least 4 entries, otherwise required vote number is 1 less than the number of entries ;)). Failure to vote for 3 other entries may result in disqualification, or despatch of Inquisitor (yadda yadda ...)

- Prize: the 1st place entry will get to choose one figure from the list at the top of this post. After the choice has been made the 2nd placed entrant will then get to choose from the figures left. The 3rd place entrant will then get to choose from the remainder.

- In the event of a tie for a winning place on total points the tie breaker will be the most 1st place votes, followed by most 2nd place, and then 3rd. In the event of a dead heat, winners will be required to meet at a gladiatorial ring of their choosing and will fight to the death while jeering aliens (who look uncannily human) look on and loud music is playing.

- Judges decision will be final. No amount of cajoling, arguing, threatening or other forms of intimidation will change the result. Large sums of non-sequential bank notes left inconspicuously under the AoS server with a note of the winners name might however be viewed favourably.

To give an idea of what is expected, you can see the results of

Competition #2 - Medicae Facility
Competition #3 - Fuel Dump
Competition #4 - Power Generator

As I'm new to this competition I was wondering, do bases have to be round? Just want to know before I start building.

The rule`s say

The base size should be of a reasonable size for use in a game - the suggestion is no larger than a CD/DVD (around 12cm diameter). They must start as plain bases with no pre made stuff on them (so no Dreadnought bases, for instance). Standard GW 25mm, 40mm, and 60mm bases are also acceptable.

So i suppose a shape that fit`s within the paramater`s would be cool.

I had this problem when i entered my first one, I cut a circle from a round pot i had lying around and nearly missed out cos i didnt check the rule`s.

I got away with it through groveling begging general prostration.

Good luck in the comp,
And dont forget WIP Pic`s

Nope, feel free to use any shape you like, but try not to make it too large - the idea is to make something you will actually use in a game, not to create an epic diorama :)

Size question, could you use the area of a cd as the base size? like an elipticle circle that is longer in one axis and shorter in the other so that the area is exactly the same??

Not that this impacts on my current idea, a looted imperial shipping container that will have a pile of shootas outside.

Leather hole punch is good for making rivets as well as the corner tie down points on the container.

Tooth picks are used on the edges to give the corner bits something to glue to.

Plan to paint it like it came out of the game Fallout Tactics, nice and rusty.

Re: AoS Marker Competition #5 - Ammo Dump

Postby timewizard » Sat May 02, 2009 3:51 am

I know the title of this competition is ammo dump, but the first post in the thread starts with...

Spack wrote:Objective Marker Competition #5 - Ammunition Store

So, I actually decided to not wait until the last minute to get started on my version of an Ammunition "Store". I decided to go bigger this time (that sound you just heard is Ruffian's double entendre alarm :D ) and used a CD covered with foamboard for the base. Here are the first mock ups...
Image

And where would you go to look for guns and ammunition?
Image

Here the walls have been chopped down to represent battle damage...
Image

Image

And the ammunition crates will be placed inside like this...
Image

I also had to 'imagineer' up some window frames for the interior because the wall sections that I found had no interior details. So some basswood cut into strips and chopped to size yielded...
Image

Still a fair amount of work to do, but I wanted to get started early because I have a feeling that this one will take me some time to finish properly.
Thanks for looking. Now... I showed you mine, show me yours! (There goes that alarm again  )

Wow, early starting there. Looking good. TW, I see you also have some of the GW ammo crates - I used one in my first objective, and 2 of the cylinders in the last one.

I changed the title of the marker to match the titles from the first marker topic, but forgot to change the topic title. I'll get that fixed now.

Nice ideas, lads!

I really hope to get something done this time round.
Pretty much plague guarded into oblivion now.

Do have an interesting idea, but building it might be a bit of a challenge.
Photographing it will be even more difficult, I fear.

@General Lee-Great idea there! The rack of weapons for sale is a nice touch.
I like Bugbait's shipping container too!
@Spack, yep, those are the GW ammo crates. I've had them for some time, was just waiting to put them to use!
This is shaping up to be a competion to remember!
Good luck to all.
