I'm gonna agree with baragash.. can we get some insight from the bossman as to whether time of year means we get butter or cheese on our £8 baked potato
Otherwise I'm bringing some tesco finest packed lunch ..this isn't just tomato and cheese the size of my head, this is sun dried tomato wrapped in a stilton coating thats been moistened by jewel staite's saliva and some mango chutney.

Games wise.. 40k, bloodbowl, small kings of war. (possibly malifuax if LH teaches me it before he's read the entire web on how to power game it)
could partake in but not provide bits for; aeronautica and space hulk.
filler games dominion, shit head, category 5 (although my deck is homemade)
Barely even lurking..

In.

Meh on 40k tourney unless you come up with something interesting.

Malifaux (may or may not have models by then), Warmachine, 40k at a push, AI, bloodbowl all good for me.

Good to hear mate.

Regarding the 'tournament' I have a few questions about what your happy/unhappy with me doing. so heres a few ideas.

1. have strategies/schemes like in malifaux with VPs or BPs as a reward for completion

2. d6 roll at start of each turn for random game effect (just off top of my head and by no means a final list)
1-3 nothing happens,
4 all melta and lance weapons gain the gets hot rule
5 Nightfighting
6 all infantry get +2M
maybe add some story to explain the changes eg battles are in the realm of chaos or on a dying planet etc

3. CTF rules to be worked out but similar idea to fps games

4. play a campaign as oppose to tourny (think this was mentioned last yr) have good vs evil, 1st game singles, 2nd doubles, 3rd apoc style (ask if we can push tables together for a 12x8 i think it will be? no super heavies) (maybe add some random game effects to the apoc if it becomes v one sided think rogue trader GM)(or no apoc and have another doubles game)

5. try out alternating moves, then alternating shooting (maybe messing with the rules too much though)

I'll see how the comments go for them 5 to start with lol

What does that mean to us folk who have two shoes and wear both at the same time?

Like in principle but hate the examples given.. it will just be a free ticket for landraider armies against half the codexs.I have a tourney pack somewhere for low grav etc (not singling out a single class/comping)..I'll dig it out and PM it..
Stunty wrote:3. CTF rules to be worked out but similar idea to fps games
Interesting something that accrues points throughout the game stops last second snatchers and all that castling crap.. but defence/stagnant preying spider armies will hate it with a reason (thinking LHs lists and Si's shooty guard mostly)

As described that suffers from the same thing the last one did in that its just fluff until people can be bothered to play apoc...If it can be done as escalation campagn within the 40k framework.. in real time. losers keep chances of staying in ( become insurgent forces everyone gains infiltrate).. and people are forced to stick to the thing that were optimal in 500 points but are less so at 1850.. then it has a structure..otherwise everyone always finds a way to shrug it off and just play normal games.
Stunty wrote:5. try out alternating moves, then alternating shooting (maybe messing with the rules too much though)
You go I go doesn't work with 200 models. :D

How about (as another random) a swap lists mechanism.. person winning has to swap with person losing etc..1-18, 2-17,8-9th etc after each round.. to show the best all round general rather than just the person who has spent 15 years perfecting and buying their ultimate list. (tricky if we get some guy turning up last minute we don't know drunk handling the most pro painted deluxe army of best ever).

1. strategies are like 40k missions and examples of malifaux schemes would be 'write down an enemy hq in secret, if you kill that model you get 1vp if you declare the target at the start you get 2vp' another would is 'if have more models in the enemy deployment zone than them at the end of the game, 1vp undeclared, 2vp declared' and there are many more.

2. I know my example wasnt the best but its what popped into my head at the time of writing lol. I was thinking of the low grav at the time funnily enough but couldnt find it.

I thought about the list swapping but if you dont know how an army plays its gonna be too difficult for some to do, plus people may be uncomfortable loaning miniatures out.

I think trying to reasonably balance anything is gonna be very difficult which is why I'm asking questions now lol

can you explain what you mean about point 4. What I was thinking about the apoc was everyone taking part.

Oh yeah..old victory cards thingy.,.I have some of those somewhere :)
Stunty wrote:can you explain what you mean about point 4. What I was thinking about the apoc was everyone taking part.
The last one was keeping track of who had won what.. so that the next day 8 people playing apoc took X into consideration (which they didn't IIRC).
To my mind a campaign needs;
real time influence, or some way of actually inputting to players a relevance (so it would need to effect stuff after game 1).
NOT to be one big rolling ball of momentum for one guy/side. (which kind of contradicts/schisms with a tourney).
A balance of sides or handicap..On the day it turned out that nearly everyone was imperial due to codex creep..so goodies had to fragment into good goodies and bad goodies.(doesn't help that generally 'evil' can't touch BA SW and guard..if we apply this over the last meetup it would be everyone vs MR6 and baragash)
Escalations would be a good way to handle lots of story in a finite period of time.. otherwise the entire story unrolls in basically 3 battles.(and I think the combat patrol type stuff we did a few years back went down quite well).
To that end.. an escalation, starting low can be powerful and a big list can be powerful.. but putting a strict refinement that for army personality the core must remain (say) 95% the same each expansion.
Makes it a bit like other games tourneys where you have a cheese board you add to a core, and makes it fluffy as hell.(thinks- sergeant X has become veteran X due to campaign structure)

All that said I expect that if LH is wavering on being in the tourney he'll run a mile if it mandatorially ends in apoc. (I quite like the idea that after game 2/3 (1750 or so.. ) we all merge onto one table (race for the destructor button what have you).
Using the FOC and tourney lists already provided would still mean 14000 a side, maybe 1 super heavy a side or something just to make it all look greater scale.

If we're all about all games systems, I suggested a story arc campaign (just for inhouse) to LH which made him laugh (then serious face say never)..
Code: Select all
Start with lo-tech civilisation
play city building game (dominion)
Civilisation grows and fights with neighbours (play kings of war)
Technology grows (aeronautica for dogfights between nations)
Interplanetary war (40k)
Attrition war wages on resources become scarce ( warmachine/malifaux)
Everyone is knackered and dead, trying to beat their eternal enemies to death with a wet kipper (necromunda, killteam something)..
Last sentient being standing wins the universe.

(LH told me to lay off the crack)
Barely even lurking..
