AoS Painting Comp - With Prizes! Congrats to the Winners!

Postby LordMalekTheRedKnight » Wed Sep 03, 2008 3:26 pm

Hey all :)

following the discussion here, the AoS AoBR painting competition has now officially begun! :D

the competition will run from now until the 1st of December (giving you just shy of 3 months). photographs of entries must be submitted between the 25th of Nov up to and including the 1st of Dec. voting begins on the 2nd of Dec and closes on the 8th, with the winners being declared shortly afterwards.

EDIT - an update (09/12/08): THE RESULTS ARE IN!

Category: Ork Nob
1st place: "Dezert Ratz Kommando" - Herne
2nd place: "Bad Moon Ork" - Mattjgilbert
3rd place: "goff klan ork" - Darkgod

Category: SM Terminator
1st place: "Industrial Armour" - Mattjgilbert
2nd place: "Deathwing Terminator AoBR" - Herne
3rd place: "flesheater chapter terminator" - Darkgod

congratulations! 8)

Herne & Matt each win a £25 gift voucher courtesy of Gaming Figures. :D

thanks to everyone who took part for making this such a fun and exciting competition!

cheers :)

EDIT - an update (02/12/08): VOTING IS NOW OPEN! You have until the 8th of Dec to cast your votes. good luck everyone! :D

EDIT - an update (25/11/08): links to the 2 competition entry galleries:

Ork Nob

SM Terminator

as soon as Dan activates these you can all upload your entries (see below). once you have submitted your pic(s), you are free to post WIP photos etc in this thread, if you like. :)

EDIT - an update (19/11/08): links to the 2 competition entry galleries (one per category) will be posted shortly. as above, your entries can be submitted anywhere from the 25th of Nov up to and including the 1st of Dec. the maximum pic size will be 1024x768 pixels (any pics bigger than this will be automatically shrunk to that size). each member can enter 1 pic per category - you can make a collage if you like, showing your model from different angles (see the Objective Comp winners for example), or just a single shot - its up to you. more details to follow...

this competition is open to all members of AoS (including any newcomers before the closing date), and each member can enter 1 model in either or both of the 2 categories. entry is free, and the prize for the winners are the bragging rights (;)), and to get pictures of their models included in the AoS Competition Winners gallery.
EDIT: our partner site and official store GamingFigures.comhas generously offered prizes! see below for details:

Prizes

the 1st place winner in each category will receive a £25 Gaming Figures gift voucher. 8)
however, there is a limit of 1 prize per person, so in the event that the same person wins both categories, they will receive one £25 gift voucher while the other is awarded to the person who scored the highest out of those that came in 2nd place. if the scores between both 2nd place winners are tied, then they will share the gift voucher equally (£12.50 each) - if the same person comes 2nd in both categories, then that person receives the whole amount (£25).
Many thanks to KInG & Spack! :)

Categories

- SM Terminator: paint the free WD Terminator (or a matching model from the AoBR boxed set) in any way you like. The Terminator has a Storm Bolter & Power Fist, wears a helmet and is on a 40mm round base.

- Ork Nob: paint the free WD Nob (or a matching model from the AoBR boxed set) in any way you like. The Nob has a Choppa & Slugga, and is on a 25mm round base.

as above, you can enter one or both of these categories - it is entirely up to you! :)

The Rules

1) Stock Models only. clean and assemble the snap-fit models as they come, with no conversions or modifications. exceptions:
1a) you can drill gun barrels out
1b) you can use greenstuff to fill gaps between components
1c) invisible modifications are allowed (pinning, weighting bases, using magnets etc are all OK, as long as they are not visible once the model is painted)
1d) you can add minor chapter/klan specific details in order for the model to fit into the rest of your army after the competition - just dont go overboard!

2) Stock Bases only. you cannot use different size/shape bases, plinths or premade scenic bases. you can use basing details and other parts from your bits box to decorate the base, but remember that this is a painting competition, not a conversion contest.

3) Transfers/decals are allowed. feel free to use transfers/decals to decorate your models. they do not have to be taken from the transfer sheet in the AoBR box.

4) Do NOT post pics early. only post photographs of your entry between the 25th of Nov and the 1st of Dec (inclusive). more details will be posted on how to take the pics, and how to submit them, closer to that time. you can of course discuss your entry in the forums before submitting it - just no sharing pics. :)

something to note: a similar competition is being held on another forum (although it was suggested here before that was posted... :P). if your entry qualifies for that competition also, feel free to enter both.

any questions, just post them in this thread.

cheers and good luck! :D

No! If you can't follow the rules you can't play in the game!

Seriously though, I won't speak for Tim (but he'll probably agree) but I think that's fine!
That's one heck of an exercise! I get winded after 5 minutes on the treadmill!

Is there going to be a thread created for discussing entries?

how entries have to be submitted hasnt been finalised yet (im waiting to see how it goes with the Objective comp), but yes, we can work around that. :)

not sure how (if) you will be able to vote though... (we can try and sort this out later)

timewizard wrote:@Lord Malek - can you edit post #1 to show the prizes? Thanks!

yes, i will do it now. :)

mattjgilbert wrote:Is there going to be a thread created for discussing entries?

you can use the thread i linked to at the start of the OP (i have renamed it as "(out of comp discussion)". :)

cheers!

So just to check, greenstuff is only perrmitted to cover flaws to do with snap fit?
i can't shuffle a shoulder fowards slightly for a better pose and then green stuff the change? (this would classify as a conversion?)
Figured I'd check before I began (makes the assembly stage fairly easy- model glue= done spray, paint photo get laughed at for crap paint  call you all rude words..I'll be in on this one (I will actually have time for it..and taumaul has said the models should be turning up tomorrow :D )

KING
Can gift voucher overspills be used to cover postage, or no matter what we buy will we have to pay for our own postage? (you see thats why y'all don't see me in the trading post much   ) And is that a voucher at RRP basic discount or of 25%. Changes the value of the prise a bit and you ought to be clear.

It can't possibly cost more to ship to you than to ship to the US, can it? 8O

No but one of them costs him a lot more than the other (requiring clarity)
