Aug '09 Meetup Checklist

Postby LordMalekTheRedKnight » Wed Feb 11, 2009 1:22 pm

Added by Spack: Aug 7/8/9 booked, if anyone can't make it need to know ASAP to try and rearrange

Hey all :)

since the last WHW Weekend is still fresh in our minds, i thought this would be a good time to start coming up with ideas and making a checklist ready for the big annual meet-up later this year (Aug?). that way we can make sure everything is done in time with nothing being left to the last minute. if you think of anything, please post it in this thread. :)

- AoS/GF T-shirts and Dice (big and small)
- proper bagdes (with AoS/GF custom made lanyards?)
- a list of everyone who is going, how long they are staying, and what armies they are bringing
- tables need to be booked
- events (APOC game? CP event? character arena combat?)
- non-40K stuff (WHFB, Magic, Cinema etc)
- fliers advertising the site to give out to spectators
- list of FAQ questions to hand in
- book hotel (Rufford again, yes?)
- FAQs/Reference sheets need to be printed
- bitz box swaps
- Gaming Figures order pickup

what else can you think of? :?:

cheers :)

~ Tim

You know I kind of see all those 3 through slightly negative spectacles.. , But I am intrigued by the idea of some kind of brutal war party merging of the 3. (E.g 400 points (mostly)Combat patrol rules(although of course we'd need to make them good).. Everyone brings one.. those who want to play are at Table X on saturday morning..then maybe dice for whose allies with whom (if you want to make it really scary you roll for who your allies with after everyones deployed in random areas(scatter based) Killteam compat patrol charector killy goodness of 40k on a 12 by 4 or something-(if you want after that the winners have to duke it out for winners of winners with what they have left)
..Does that make anyone intrigued?
Or does it just sound rubbish?

something i discussed on the weekend (cant remember who with, sorry!) was the idea of a cross between Apoc & CP. we could use two 6'x4' tables in a row to make a long table, and split everyone into one of two teams, with each player fielding a 400 pts CP force.

i think it would be a lot of fun. :D

something else i want to try is a game where everyone brings an IC nd they all battle it out to be the last man standing.

these sorts of games would be a good way to get everyone involved without needing to spend the whole day on one battle (APOC). :)

Badges and lanyards are possible - I've got a laminator at home now, and Spreadshirt will print on lanyards (although they're not cheap, about £7 each - ouch!). Will look at alternatives for cheaper T-shirts too.

I think first of all we need to organise which weekend it'll be on. I need to double check, but for August the only weekend I seem to be free is the 22nd/23rd. Gah!

Wayhay, that's my Birthday weekend!

How about we get a painting competition running so that we can vote with actually seeing the model? Or just a 'best painted army' competition type thing? I'm tempted to say a mini-tournament, but I appreciate the majority won't want that.

How about some other gaming systems? Bloodbowl is free to download & you can get a team together fairly cheaply and quickly - I might be up for that, same for inquisitor. I can't get the time to get a fantasy or epic army together (though I'd love a game of epic if others have armies they can share...)

Just some thoughts - move along now.

Looking at the WHW events calendar there's possibly something on the weekend of the 22nd/23rd, it says "See Blog" but I haven't found anything in the blog for that weekend yet. I tried rining WHW to ask which weekends would be free to book 10-15 tables and was told I would have to ring back in about a month as they can't book anything that far ahead yet.

8th/9th are listed in the online calendar as Open Gaming, and 15th/16th are for the WH Battlefields event so that looks out for sure.

EDIT: Found out what's on the 22nd/23rd on Warseer - it's the Carnage Apocalypse 2009 event. Apparently they have 40 tables booked, so that weekend is probably out. I'll chat to my wife about skipping the Bulldog Bash this year (again!) and see if I can make the 8th/9th weekend.

@ Tim, all good ideas and I think most of that is doable in some form or another.

@ Spack, are we sure there's nothing on the 8th / 9th, maybe u or Matt could call about that weekend.

@ James... why not see how mnay would like a litle tourney. My group won't shy away. I really like the idea of a 'best painted army' competition to be judged at the event. AoS_GF might be up for putting up a decent prize this time, as people keep giving the other prizes back :D

@Toby... rematch time :)

As I wrote in my reply, can't get a definite answer on anything until next month.

I guess the next option is July, I'd be free 11th/12th and 25th/26th. Would anybody else have problems with these if the Aug weekend is out?

I'm in France for 2 weeks at the end of August. July or start of August is better for me.

yes of course we can, in fact i thought about it for this meetup, but was far too late to remind people.

any orders placed with the shop, can be delivered to WHW when we meet up. Just call Gav at the shop, or email, after your order is placed, and we will bring them to you, saving any postage costs :D

I'd love to get a game of fantasy in.

Date wise, I'd need to know asap as I have a reunion thing to schedule and my work holidays work best when booked very early.

as far as i can tell now, the later the better for us. Faith is due in May, so might not have settled into a routine until late July (when Seth was born we slept in shifts in the living room for the first 6 weeks...).

i have updated my list in the OP too. :)
