Cool and makes sense. Someone I know used to work for GW and entered four GT's about ten years ago. He said he got completely fed up with the judges picking their mates as he called it (He got onto the top tables in the finals each time but then found stupid decisions rife.

I guess the best thing is just to go to have fun and not worry about winning or ranking, personally I'd be going to try and win one or two games out of the six. :D

I once played in a counter-strike: source tournament, our team came last of the last but I was happy as I had got quite a few kills :D.

Whats the drill? Just phone up and order ticket/pack and arrange accommodation for the Saturday night?

Afterthought: i guess it also gives a month for the smurf codex to settle in- so you get used to 16 men LRs full of FNP etc.

As KMB said in his usual long winded way :) you can go to any heat.

Also with Heat 3 being the last one it gives you more time to get 'made and painted'.

you just wanna make sure you rank in the top 40 to get to the free final. that means approx 4 wins and some draws. or it did under the old mission scoring system.

yes call them and buy ur ticket. Im aiming to go back to the AOS hotel, as their breakfasts were sh*t hot.

Oh dear. My guys haven't even got their tickets.

Looks like it is going to be a small meet up then. Who did get tickets?

Well that solves my "why ain't you *&^%*s helping with my list" problem, when your up I might have to seek you out and throw down the gauntlett. (a few years back when ljundhammer went I got smuggled into watch and drink afterwards) We might have to fight in the car park :) We'll need a rolling tray for the dice to lie flat

Did we ever agree that dog poo should be dangerous terrain?
Can't remember.

Though, with recent events, we can all agree that Slate should be. 8)

All Heats of the GT 08/09 are sold out - gone in the 1st week.

So I guess that ain't the next meeting up for us then, well for some.

Gamesday presents an opportunity for some to meet... but after that?

Can I propose we start talking about the AoS roadtrip #2 now? We can start confirming stuff asap, allowing even more to plan and make it to the next one. :D

I still haven't finished with this event yet (got the last few dice to organise sending out).

I guess the next thing to work is if we're going to do another, when? August 2009 seems a long way off, but I was underprepared this time even with 6 months notice :P

Would everyone be happy with a once a year event? Or maybe twice, in Feb and August? I think any more frequent than that might put too much strain on people given the costs of travelling, hotel, beer, food, etc.

The next one will be better organised though, I promise. Well, not "I" exactly ;)

we wouldnt be able to afford to do it twice a year, personally. i would rather have an extra day at WHW once a year instead, and arrange mini-meetups that coincide with other travels (most of our travel budget and holiday allowance is earmarked for taking Kate back home to see her family - in fact, the weekend was our first ever holiday that wasnt combined with visiting relatives).

if we all did it Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon (travelling home Monday afternoon) we could get a lot more games in. we could also arrange some proper games at the hotel in the evenings too (now we know how accommodating them are).

thoughts?

OK , I'm an arse (this is clearly spelt out in my raison d'être- darned raisons) but AOS meets aren't the lord malek whistle stop tour. I appreciate mini visits you may make to all and sundry in their local places- but that does not an AOS thing make.
Several folks-including I believe the dragons tears lot- had big problems making the 3 day weekend as it was.By this time next year I would possibly also struggle to make the full 3 days (although I could still make the 2 and half as it turned out of this year :P ).
For me travelling is minimal and I am flexible.
Its seems a tricky tradeoff has reared up.. between those for whom it is a weekend (and who zoom up and back), and those for whom it is a whole holiday with build ups and tail offs.
I personally :) think 4 days a bit much (in 2 and a half I played 7 games +8 hours of apocalypse- how many games do people normally play in a month??) and 3 days twice a year (maybe with some only making one we designate as "bigger").. a good solution for the more mobile sort. (the bigger might include an extra day that those flying\8hours on training go to, whilst the rest of us work the week  )
compromise? (or just me=arsey? )

i never said it was. and i wasnt just talking about myself either when i said about mini-meets (for example, a few of us are hoping to gather in the same place when Ben comes over).

killmaimburn wrote:I appreciate mini visits you may make to all and sundry in their local places- but that does not an AOS thing make.

never said it did - but it might get us all by between annual meetups (just like we have members meeting at the GT and at Games day - not everyone is going to be there, but they will still be mini AoS meetups).

killmaimburn wrote:Its seems a tricky tradeoff has reared up.. between those for whom it is a weekend (and who zoom up and back), and those for whom it is a whole holiday with build ups and tail offs.

well there is no reason why we cant have both: a 4-day weekend, with different people there for different days (just like this time, Ruffian's lot were only there on the Sat, Kate and I werent there on the Fri etc), staying for different lengths of time. shouldnt make any difference to those only coming for a couple of days, especially if we make sure that we are all there for those 2 days (with the days either side being optional).

assuming we meet at WHW again, you are lucky as you live close by. to put it into perspective, the travel costs alone for us coming for an extra visit would pay for 2 nights hotel stay! its a long way for us (and others) to come, so we want to make the most of it while we are there.

if people want to arrange 2 big meet-ups a year then thats fine by me (i was simply stating our personal position), and who knows, we might even be able to make it to both - and even if we cant, we will still get to go to one of them anyway (although it would be better for us if we could find some people who would stay longer than a couple of days when we do go).

what i dont really want is 2 medium sized meets where not everyone makes it to any one of them all at the same time (if someone can only afford to come to one, which one do they choose?).

whoops, maybe i should have read your whole post before i started replying...

cheers :)
