Wargaming Trip to Gibraltar!

Postby conscriptboris » Tue Nov 26, 2013 12:33 pm

Hey all,

Something I have been thinking about for a while, would anyone interested in travelling to Gibraltar for Wargaming/Sight seeing?

What would the trip entail?

I would suggest 4 days (over a weekend, including travel). Rough intinery would be as follows:

Friday:
0900-1400hrs Arrive in Gibraltar.
1600-1800hrs morrisons trip/orientation.
2000-2359hrs Welcome Meal out/post meal drinks.

Saturday
0001-0300hrs Optional Drinking.
0900-1100hrs Breakfast in Town.
1100-1700hrs Wargame Tournament (UK vs Gib or mixed).
1730-1900hrs Lower St Michaels Cave Tour
2000-2359hrs Evening Entertainment/BBQ at Elvis' s house.

Sunday
0001-0300hrs Optional Drinking.
0800-1000hrs Breakfast in Town.
1030-1400hrs Upper Rock/WW2 Tunnels/100 tonne gun Tours.
1500-2000hrs Wargame Tournament.
2100-2359hrs Close down final meal/Goodbye Drinks.

Monday
0001-0300hrs Optional Drinking.
0800-1500hrs Depart from Gibraltar.

So, that would be a taste of a potential programme. The wargames would be held in my Regiments Officers Club, very nice place! So, pricings, meals out would be £20-£30 per person, depending on how crazy you go. The tours I am 99% sure I can get you for free, or £6-£8 ea, not the £20 ea normal tourists pay.

As for flights, you are looking at £120pp return from london to gibraltar. However if that is too difficult, you can fly from manchester also if booked in advance. For about £100pp return, you can fly from most of the UK to malaga, where I can pick you up, I would appreciate fuel money though (£30 each way).

The accomodation can be sorted through a block of flats the military have for bookings of military guests in gib, this runs at £55 a night and sleeps 6, so accomodation can be sorted cheaply! Or £80-£120 a night in a hotel.

Dates, well flexible, I am thinking late summer/winter next year?

Also, if you thinking, my wife would never allow that, bringbring her along, delete wargaming of the timetable and insert shopping/coffees. If you have young children, plenty of playparks exsist and it is all within walking distance. My wife is more than happy to host the wifes while we play with toy soldiers!

Im not looking for confirmations right now, reply jere if you reckon you would love to make the effort, as long as the dates work :)

Hope to see replys from several of you, btw, for the ladyss, the shopping is good!

I'll see if the wife is open to the idea......but yeah, due to the little one this would be the earliest it would be possible.

This sounds a fantastic idea! Thank you for taking this on.

I would be very interested in this.

My only issue with the program is the "optional" drinking... I think this should be compulsory ;-)

@Red Devil: compulsory... I like!

@Angelwing: Date setting by the End of January is possible, im just looking for some mpre volunteers, 6+ people and were onto a winner!

@Hunter: ill speak to my club and see if I can get anything sent your way :)

Speaking of costs, meals out can be replaced with BBQ and beer at my house (£10per person is usually more than enough). 6 individuals or 3 couples can share a flat so £10 per person per night.

The flight is the biggest outset, but done in advance can be done cheaply.

I'd love to be able to say yes, but I can't commit to anything. I don't think I'd be able to make it, but should things change I'd be up for it in a flash.

Well the interest is looking good!

@king; yep, gibraltar has a cultural past, very much orientated around the military/navy. If you can make it, things like the officers club and lower st michaels caves, tourist dont get to see.

For wives/girlfriends and children, they will also be able to do the tour (children may miss out on caves due to age, but that not a problem) my wife is also willing to run an itinery for the non wargaming members of the family which will be interesting and fun :)

Just a little bump to keep interest.

@ AngelWing: When do you have to give notice for leave, start or end of Jan?
