Rules Questions

Rules Questions

Postby cgra1 » Fri Mar 18, 2011 10:58 am

Hello

Me and Gav had a FOW game yesterday - (that he would rather forget) - that threw up an odd situation we had not come up against before. Gav sent his brave lads to assault a recce team on its own with a rifle platoon with teams within 4" of it. I decided that instead of jumping onto his bayonets that my team would test to disengage from the Assault. The rules seemed to say that the assualt still goes ahead, even though the team disengages but we were not sure if this would still trigger covering fire from the surrounding teams.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Also I was on the Flames of War website to ask this question and I came across this article with a picture of a familiar face - (Could have at least been wearing an Age of Strife T'shirt)

Must admit the only time I've assaulted a Recce Team (Fallshirmjager Platoon against a squadron of Russian BA-10s), they failed their check to disengage, they were unsupported and I decimated them.

Looking at the rules, it sounds like all normal rules for 'defensive fire' still stand, it's just the Recce cannot DF as it is too busy falling back. Remember any Platoon within 4" of the initial target is counted as being an assaulted platoon even if not engaged base-to-base.
So I would say the Rifle platoon wound be able to DF - One thing I can't figure out is the order of actions: Do you move the Recce back first and then complete the Rifle Platoon defensive fire or the other way round?
If you move the Recce first - this may allow more Rifles to be able to fire as LoS is not blocked?

Caught Red Handed - that was Corrivalry, last game of the tournament - My 6th Fallshirmjager vs British Armoured Squadron across a table of fields and hedges - can just make out the car park of burning Shermans and Tank Destroyers killed by my PaK40s and Panzerfaust Tank Traps (just in front of the white smoke square).

Glorious win for the Germans. As to club shirt - send me one and I'll wear it...
Going to Maelstrom Games for the Tempus Fugitives 'Into the Maelstrom' campaign weekend - could have been wearing it for this...next time.

Thanks

Thats kinda the way we played it so thats ok. Poor Gav got pinned and fell back so the assault failed and left his infantry in the open to be mowed down by rifle fire.

Good luck at the Maelstrom Campaign. (Although it sickens me to be wishing the enemy luck)

How do you mean the enemy? Are you going?
I'm going up with my Dark Angels led by Master Gabriel (Belial clone).

No worries - I only seem to play Germans so much because the club I go to the guys prefer to play Russians\Brits\US forces and I hate playing Blue-on-Blue games.

If I ever get client assignment up north, will have to look you guys up for a Game.
