WWII TV

Obviously Pacific it now showing on sky premiere, absolutely brilliant.

But I've also stumbled onto WWII Lost Films. Documentry style, whith rare and unseen footage from the Pacific and Europe... really good also.

If you like The Pacific, watch Band of Brothers :) And of course don't forget Saving Private Ryan.

Disagree.
For best learning\proper like doing an undergrad course one..I have to say world at war still hasn't been bettered..current ones might have more cgi, but they don't have the old generals sat drinking whiskky actually telling you stuff. I don't do war stuff, (no really) but even I have that sat on a shelf somewhere.*
I'm fairly impressed by the "now in colour" historical footage range stuff that several production companies have started releasing.. best one so far was a rich young hip lady who toured around india with her colour camera in the last days of empire.. awesome footage. (BBC4 regular)
But anyway-stop trying to troll with subtle bits of flames of war creep, we is sci fi and exploding bullets grim dark :P

Film wise
Whilst this was awesome- (see Christian Bale as a child actor 8O ) this has dated a bit but still worth sticking on whilst you paint. i still haven't watched cross of iron, or bridge over the river qui but I hear good things from friends who review movies.

You get a lot more narrative and stories direct from the guys involved, and some pretty amazing ones not covered in the series.

I'll probably get the pacifc to read once it's finished on TV.

I've also still got pegasus bridge I've not read yet.

Pegasus Bridge and D-Day by Stephen E Ambrose are good reads. If you have an Intrest in WW1 a book called Paschendale is excellent

Pegasus Bridge is an ok read, but you need other views on the actual action, Ambrose was a fanboy of Howards and so he can do no wrong. BoB suffers from a similar issue, as anectdotal reminiscences they are good, but they are not always good history.

I've got Das Boot at home on DVD too - that's a damn good film if you're up to reading subtitles. I prefer subtitles when watching foreign movies, I find dubbed voices far too offputting ...

I prefer the subtitles as well, and Das Boot was one of the best I've seen lately.
Trying to catch "The Pacific" on cable over here, but keep missing episodes.
I'll have to get a kind soul over here to record it for me.

I think King should go watch Inglorius Basterds.

Totally real, honest.

I remember watching Das Boot as a series on BBC2 long ago, I remember it being claustrophobic and excellent.
