gaming figures discount changes

Re: gaming figures discount changes

Postby Herne » Thu Jan 07, 2010 3:57 pm

Friend of mine works in a branch of GW - shan't say which or who to protect the innocent - but he's had barely a day off over xmas due to the 'rush' and the fact that they are short staffed. They lost a staff member - but then weren't allowed to hire any more because of the stores 'size' meaning that there were only 2 staff when the manager was out. (Which seems to be most of the time.) Then on some gaming nights there were only 1 member of staff in. Watch the tills. Watch the stock. Manage the games. And if I just have my arse-broom attachment adjusted I can sweep the floors. Glad I don't have to work for them. Makes me wonder what would have happened if one of them had called in sick. Shut the store? Or can we then suddenly find staff......

Doesn't really make him unique amongst front-line retail staff.

Obviously the manager is a separate issue, but if the store isn't profitable, it'll have to close.

Herne wrote:Makes me wonder what would have happened if one of them had called in sick. Shut the store? Or can we then suddenly find staff......

They'd find someone at another store to travel over, and pay their travel costs (because there's nothing in the contract to force the staff member to travel). Companies can't go around incurring costs willie-nillie, especially in this climate.

Now, I'm not saying GW are by any means a good company to work for (I did for 4.5 years), but a lot of the criticisms I read only occur from the PoV of one side of the "retail story".

When I worked in a library I was instituting a new network (credit card like)system, arguing/negioating between 3 sub contractors (covering 3 managers), and covering 4 frontline staff on a toilet cleaners pay banding.. when I found out I was due for an average performance review due to department constraints I moved up to househusband rank.

Anything goes? do we not have a shop forum yet Dan :)

If any member of AOS, who was registered before I posted this message, wants to order something this month, they can have it at the old prices.

I love you all... my New Year's gift to you ;)

PS: But also at the old postage too I'm afraid.

How to order: Email Gav on orders@gamingfigures.com and tell him that your order corresponds to this thread's offer, which I am emailing to him now for tmw so he knows what madness and mayhem I have subjected him to. I would have told him myself, but I'm planning on driving 2 hours in the snow tmw to FoW / GF9 / Wargames Illistrated's office tmw to weigh all their products to put on the site this weekend with Dan ready for Monday/Tuesday, work permitting.

A newsletter will follow that week updating everyone with what just happend at AOS_GF. Hope to see you all soon at the coming meetup, bfn ;)

Too true.

A fair point. Retail, like most of our countries industry, is just another example of how our overburdened system is grinding at the seams. It just always seems to be the minimum wagers that come off worst in terms of pay and conditions.

On a more positive note - Really good offer from Nige - not many managers are so generous, given the fine lines between profit and outgoings. :D

guys, believe me, this has been more about keeping head above water than trying to make lots of money. GF has never made mony, and was actually started so me and my gaming friends could have our models cheap. As my 'friends' ;) (this community) has increased also, we have tried to get them their stuff cheap too.

The new lines and pricing has been forced on us, it was not by choice... and the poeple who know me know that is not just some shop retailer giving you some shallow BS.

So if there is any new lines you would like to be able to buy as cheap as possible online, then list them somewhere on the site and we'll see if they are viable and can be got ;)

Stunty, my good man, do not worry about it... GF will not suffer as a result of me giving members this small grace period because I think I have managed to convince GW that they told me about this far too late for me to get everything changed over in time and alter the whole site. As of yet the change over to the new pricing hasn't happened, so the site is going ahead with the changes as planned, but for now we're paying same prices. Obviously that could change at any moment.

So anyone thinking of taking up our offer, we would ask u to do it asap ;) many thanks.
