Gah, bloody hell nige, you did say (in PM) that you were going to tell people.

I'll say some stuff and someone can tell me where I go wrong.

GW has rather famously put the screws on all independant sellers and Friendly Local Gamings Stores (FLGS's). When you buy from GW you are apparently subsidising the gaming environment of their shops and WHW (you pay to play) However this meant that FLGS were able to offer some really good deals, so people didn't buy from GW. this made GW wet itself ("Crivens what do you mean someone are actually buying this stuff!!") and abolished the discounts that FLGS's were able to offer, max discount is 10% less than max discount used to be (which effectively on many items is swallowed up by shipping)

= Oh poo (insert oh noes red ranger gif and maybe a goatse here)
And GW lose a few more sales...
I believe King is looking into staying viable as a GW seller by selling more NON GW kit.(as others indies do/have)
It has always been the prerogative of half-wits and fools to point out the Emperor has no clothes, but the Emperor remains the Emperor, and the half-wit remains a half-wit.-The Sandman (The friendly ones)

That's such a shame :( I had no idea GW was so ruthless with independant stores :(

GW have been ruthless with everyone for a very long time. Much as I love the games, I'm not so sure about the business side of the company. They're ruthless with staff, paying a pittance with working 'conditions of work and pay' they've stuffed indy stockists and lets face it. Look at the massive price hikes. They've been stuffing gamers for years! (I think the money men call it 'reaoing the pocket money pound.) :-(

QFT - Quoted for truth, though a bit confusing as he didn't quote anything.

Unless it's a meteorite falling to Earth, which will destroy all life, then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for.

Sorry, partly my fault. I was going to post yesterday but it got hectic at work fixing things. We're also going to do a mailing to the GF customer base when we've got the Flames of War stuff online, which should be very soon.

KMB pretty much hit the nail on the head - last summer GW started changing trade terms for online sellers, and it finally hit us last month. Flames of War limit the amount of discount allowed on their stuff, and so we decided to offer free UK delivery to stay competitive, which means we also had to adjust the GW discounting to cover this and the reduced trade discount.

It's also why we (The Dragon's Tesrs) decided to colse our account with GW. It wasn't worth us continuing.

I'm sure GF won't lose any custom - they're still very competitive and the service has always been excellent when i've used them... :)

I have the privilage of working with a former Heavy Metal painter at one of my clients stores. She was with them for a few years and basically echoed what was said in an earlier post about their poor treatment of staff.

Some of the stories she has come out with you wouldn't want to wish on ur worst enemy.

My friend was an area manager (waaaay back). He wrote the retail manual for the stores at the time and was very well thought of but in the end him and most of his staff were ruthlessly got rid of in a witch-hunt mainly due to a personality clash and disagreement about how stores should be run. GW had bought in a head of retail who had no background in gaming (came from Dixons or something like that) and wanted to change the way stores dealt with customers. My friend got dubbed Horus by his new boss....

Thankfully him and most of his staff either won their court cases for unfair dismissal or settled out of court.
