Postby LordMalekTheRedKnight » Sat Oct 25, 2008 4:02 pm

Hey all :)

EDIT: new deck in post #8.

ive just finalised my latest list for an all Green deck. originally i wanted to keep it to 60 cards, but ive settled on 65 (which Kate has agreed to).

let me know what you think :)

cheers!

~ Tim
p.s. this isnt designed as a tourney deck or anything - its just for fun.

We have a magic the gathering forum.. :5eek :5geezer

Oh well I bet you it gets more posts on topic than my army lists

So, just checking, if its not for tourney\ to try to compete with people\challenge and you don't want it to be made better what would you like us to say about it can you give us some examples.. would " oh yes you got to love the way your opponents respond to nettles" be fitting?

well i wont be going out of my way to get certain cards to make this the "perfect" deck or anything (so dont tell me to "get on ebay and buy another 3 of x"), and i am pretty limited by the cards i already have access to (ive used all my colourless Creatures, and the best - IMO - of the Green cards i have). i also dont want to add another colour to this deck (its supposed to be all Green - ive already got Red & Green and Green & White decks, and im only a couple of cards away from being able to make an all Red deck).

i guess the kinds of comments i am looking for is "that looks like a good start (seeing as how its your first go at building a deck)", and stuff like "it will be interesting to see how x interacts with y"/"be careful not to use too much a because that will leave you without enough b"/"try to combine 1 + 2, 3 + 4, 5 + 6 + 7, as these will work well together"/"you havent got much to counter z, so if you ever get a chance to do so, take it straight away"/"i read an interesting FAQ about some of the cards you are using, take a look here...". hows that? ;)

also, once i get some more Green cards (will be buying another booster next week) we can discuss what to do with them with regards to this deck. :)

cheers

couple of things to beat in mind when you start building decks.

try to have at least 1/3 deck land, so either loss 5 cards or put another 3 land in. the first is the best option.

what does your deck what to do? put those cards in first then put the extras in next, make sure you have redunacy build in.

Test draw the deck for the first 3/4 turns see if you are getting what you need

PM me i can sort you out a load of commons /uncommons cheap got a couple :D

i know that ideally i should have more land, but between Devoted Druid (that can be tapped like land) and Rampant Growth (to find me land), ive not had any problems. plus there's Sapseep Forest too.

i may well do that, actually. :D

The deck looks pretty non-centralized (i.e. it isn't relying upon a few key cards to win), and you have a good variety of cards in it. There are a few that you may find of limited use as you play, and you will be able to remove them to get the deck down to 60 cards. You will be able to sort that after a few games.

One trick you might try, if the situation occours. If you have a big creature in play, such as your Wurm, and your opponent tries to kill it, you can use Mercy Killing in response, gaining you some Elves for a creature that was heading for the graveyard anyway. This won't necessarily be a good idea in combat though as you will want it to do damage to your opponent's creature(s) so that you can remove them from play.

ive had fun with that card, actually. for example, using it on an enemy creature that has an ability, so she loses it. or using it on one of my big creatures to boost Drove of Elves massively (even better if Rhys the Redeemer is there to double the number of creature tokens :P).

its also handy with Toil for Renown, but only if i can attack with the creature tokens whilst not having them killed by blockers (Wilt Leaf Liege helps here, by boosting their stats).

in other news, since creating this thread i have also assembled an all-Red deck (which is brutal but less sneaky about it, and less effort to co-ordinate), and Kate has made an all-Blue deck. i think i might rename this thread and post them here. :)

next thing is for Kate to work out an all-White deck (may suit her playstyle more, to make it more defensive). we are getting another booster tomorrow too. :)

cheers

having just updated my Red deck (here), i thought i would do my Green deck too. here's my new list:

Image

this has been built from the Green cards from the 9th ed starter set, the Shadowmoor Turnabout deck, and the boosters we have bought - as with the Red deck, i havent dipped into the the 10th ed Themedeck. this has meant that Forests have been limited, but i think Rampant Growth and Devoted Druid make up for that, giving me something close if not equivalent to the recommended Land:Cards ratio.

just like the Red deck, this has 2 themes. for the Green deck, these are to power up massive creatures, and also to swamp the enemy with lots of smaller creatures/tokens. its got defense against fliers, and has cards to boost my Life.

some of the cards that didnt make the cut include:
Canker Abomination, Tilling Treefolk, a Gleeful Sabotage, Naturalize, Grizzly Bears, Norwood Ranger & Woodlurker Mimic.

thoughts? how would this deck go down in your gaming group? :?:

cheers in advance :)
