Hey all
after i had the absolute pleasure of playing Dan & Co. at Birmingham last weekend (cheers guys - i had a blast!
), i decided to try my hand at making some themed 60 card decks from our collection (they all use 60 card decks, and ive now got plenty of Lands thanks to Slate's generous donation).
first up is a Green deck (ive used cards from my ~100 card Green deck, the Green 10th ed Themedeck, and the boosters we have opened recently) - "Overgrown".
the idea was to get as lots of Forests into play as fast as possible and to generate lots of Mana. this would allow me to play lots of big creatures (inc. a very powerful Molimo), and get big bonuses from things like Blanchwood Armor.
as a result, the only creatures that went into the deck were the aforementioned big guys, and those that find Lands/generate Mana.
the one exception was the Hoof Skulkin (who was my 60th card):
- he would allow me to block creatures with Fear
- he can use my large mana reserves to boost my creatures (once ive paid for all my creatures he will give me something to use my Lands for)
Blanchwood Armor is there to make my big creatures even bigger (due to all those Forests), combined with a full compliment of Rampant Growth, and the recommended Lands-to-cards ratio. Dramatic Entrance should help me get a big expensive creature into play even sooner than normal.
on the whole the plan is to ignore Flyers, but incase i come up against any particularly nasty ones, ive taken Raking Canopy and Hurricane (which could also come in handy for finishing off an opponent if i get a Life point advantage) - no flying creatures of my own, and not even any with Reach, as those didnt fit the criteria for this deck.
Helix Pinnacle gives me another way to win, making the most of all that Mana i hope to be generating.
Overrun was my favourite card from the 10th ed Green Themedeck - drawing it often won me the game, and with all these massive creatures it should be even more decisive (half a dozen 10/10's with Trample - and thats without Blanchwood Armour!).
anyway, thats the reasoning behind what went into the deck. here's the list:
this is my first attempt at building a more "focused" deck, limited to just 60 cards and with a distinct theme. so, what do you think?
cheers in advance
~ Tim
p.s. i will be using this deck tonight against Kate (not sure yet what deck she will be using) - i will let you know how it goes!
