"Wildfire" Red Deck (need help)

Postby LordMalekTheRedKnight » Fri Feb 20, 2009 3:11 pm

Hey all :)

yesterday i came up with a new Red deck list, but im having difficulty deciding which cards to cut (im trying to get down to 60, so that means i need to lose 5 non-Land cards + 3 Lands). i played a few games against Kate last night (who borrowed my Green "Overgrown" deck). here is the list:

the theme of the deck is to hit hard and to hit fast. as a result, i have included lots of creatures with Haste, as well as some hard hitters, and cards to give me Double Strike, Haste and Trample.

ive included Chandra because Planeswalkers are fun (and she is deadly once she gets going).

ive included a few spells that do direct damage, to kill creatures before they can block (or to kill Fliers before they can attack), to wear my opponent's Life total down, or to generate extra Haste attackers when Hostility is in play.

Phyrexian Vault was included since a lot of the Creatures in the deck are used almost like one shot missiles, and being able to draw more cards when they are going to die helps replace them (and should help find the bigger creatures).

ive included several smaller creatures in order for me to get on the offensive quickly. Jawbone Skullkin fits into this group, whilst also giving my Creatures Haste, and giving me a chance to block Fear causing Creatures.

the Umbral Mantle has brilliant synergy with Impelled Giant, allowing me to tap the same creature over and over to boost the Giant (who has Trample), whilst also making the creature (and the boosts) bigger and bigger. this works well with Power 6 Creatures like Kamahl and Hostility especially. (the boosts to Impelled Giant get incredibly large for a relatively small cost)

for example, with just 3 Mana spare:
Tap Kamahl to boost Impelled Giant
pay 3 and untap Kamahl to give him +2/+2
Tap Kamahl to boost Impelled Giant

now everything resolves:
- Impelled Giant gets +6/+0
- Kamahl gets +2/+2
- Impelled Giant gets +8/+0
= Kamahl becomes 8/3 and Impelled Giant becomes 17/3 (Trample)

if i can spare 6 Mana:
Tap Kamahl to boost Impelled Giant
pay 3 and untap Kamahl to give him +2/+2
Tap Kamahl to boost Impelled Giant
pay 3 and untap Kamahl to give him +2/+2
Tap Kamahl to boost Impelled Giant

now everything resolves:
- Impelled Giant gets +6/+0
- Kamahl gets +2/+2
- Impelled Giant gets +8/+0
- Kamahl gets +2/+2
- Impelled Giant gets +10/+0
= Kamahl becomes 10/5 and Impelled Giant becomes 27/3 (Trample) 8O

also, Soulbright Flamekin allows me to gain "free" Mana (it can make 6 into 8, or if both are in play, 6 into 10), whilst also giving my Creatures Trample.

so, what do you think of the deck? what do you suggest i drop in order to get closer to 60 cards? :?:

cheers :)

~ Tim
p.s. there arent many suitable cards in our collection that i havent put in the deck - and i have to work with what i have at my disposal... so there is no point telling me to "add x" or that i "should have 3 more copies of y" :P
8O :D OMG - Im a Dad - of THREE!! :D 8O
