Deadzone batrep

Deadzone batrep

Batrep shock! KMB might wet himself...

I played my first proper (since the real game went out… not playtesting with proxies) full game of Deadzone last night. I fully meant to take pictures and then totally forgot.

Forces
I’ve got Enforcers and Plague models assembled (the two factions from the core game). Dave (my opponent) chose Plague so I got the Corporation’s bad boys.
In Deadzone you pick a Strike Team up to 70 points. We realised that’s quite hard! You have to make some tough choices.
Dave took: 1x Stage 1, 2x Stage 2s, 3x Stage 3s and 1x Stage 3 with heavy machine gun
I took: 1x Sergeant, 2x Regular Enforcers, 2x Assault Enforcers and 1x Missile Launcher. That left me with 4 points which I spent on 2x Ammo and 1x AP Ammo.

Missions
You each draw a mission card from your own faction deck and get one chance to bin it and take another. Missions are secret so you can keep your opponent guessing what you are trying to do. I only scored points (and only 1) for killing Leader and Specialists (which meant only the Stage 1 and 2s) and got the most points for Controlling objective X (5 points) or capturing Y and Z. Of course, you don’t know which is which until you get to a cube and examine it.
The first to 10 VPs wins (or if you wipe out the other side). Once you think you have 10, you declare victory.

The game
It swung both ways from turn to turn and both of us appeared to be on top at various times. Of course with hindsight it’s actually hard to tell because you don’t know the other person’s mission! I managed to injure both Stage 2s but their resulting Rampage rolls went in Dave’s favour (he rolled an 8 for both) and that gave them the impetus to reach my lines and cause havoc. I eventually killed them but by then they had done the damage and kill half my models. I cleared the board of all Stage 3 plague easily enough but eventually the big brute (which is a bitch to take down) got to me and slaughtered my missile launcher guy (who had only just healed himself with a medi-pack he’d found). That left me with 2 models and, while I’d found the X objective and had in controlled (no enemy models in that cube or adjacent ones) Dave declared victory. He had a kill mission and had scored enough VPs based on the kills he’d made (Sergeant, 1 normal, 1 assault and 1 ML enforcer). I had 9 VPs (2 Stage 2s killed for 1 point each. Objective Y captured for 2 points and Objective X controlled for 5 points). Beaten by 1 point…curses!

We both really enjoyed it and are looking forward to playing lots more and with other combination and factions. I’ll try to paint it all up asap and also remember to take pictures next time.

Nice report. Those stage 2s can be a pain if you don't get them early. I have yet to face a stage 1, but looking at their stats, and from all the reports I have seen, they are absolute beasts in close combat!

Pics would be nice - I'm sure a few people would jump straight to the Mantic site to buy the terrain when see it painted in a bat rep!

We recently had our first game of Deadzone. We shelled out on the kickstarter and I fancied the look of the Rebs. After our first trial game im not sure if I made the best choice. We haven't seen the Maurauders in action yet but they seem to be the guys for me. So far we've only played a couple of small skirmish games but I'm liking the pace and dynamic of the game and am looking forward to painting my faction (instead of putting it off like I normally do). Noticed on Totalwargamer that the base set is selling for under £50 which when you consider the terrain included seems like a great bargain.

Hello.

My son and I are playing Deadzone more and more recently but we have come across a few anomalies and I was wondering if there was an official faq? I can't see anything on the Mantic site. Does anyone know of one?

Hi, there is a "living faq" on quirkworthy.com - I'll post a link when I'm back on the pc. Alternativelyyou can go to manticgames.com and click on the "forum" tab. Scroll down a little and there is a dedicated Deadzone section, with links, list suggestions, pics of painting schemes - pretty much everything you need! :)
