Deadzone Unboxing Blog

Postby Bob_to_Some » Wed Dec 11, 2013 12:07 am

Hi Guys,

For anyone who is interested, I posted part 1 of my experiences with the Deadzone Kickstarter set up on my blog. It's at: Blog

First impressions are good - models could have better quality control, but all really simple to clean up and fix. Game play is smooth and takes about an hour and a bit for a game with novice players.

Very enjoyable so far!

If you have any questions or queries about the models let me know and I will do my best to give pictures or comparisons.

It provides me the hit of a Sci Fi skirmish game (Like Necromunda) but its easier and faster to play - much like Bloodbowl. As it's square based (Well, Cube really) it doesn't require precise measurements (so generally it feels more relaxed to play.

I have been playing since the alpha rules, and I really like the game. I find it much faster than Necromunda, as there are fewer specialist rules. The fact that you do not need a tape measure also helps. This may change as the game develops and characters start to gain different abilities.

I have found the level of details is brilliant, but Mantic mould lines can be a pain. The new minis in the hard plastic are far better then the old restic ones I have though.

And the terrain is amazing. I have 6 battlezones (types really) - core world (sort of industrial), Landing pad (as it says) and Fortifications (barricades and extra thick armour plating for walls). The last two also have gun turrets! I have found no mould lines any worse than you would get on GW stuff - which is great. The clips require a knack to fit properly, but they allow fantastic modular scenery to be built up.

Overal I love the game and the models. The new Enforcers whihch will be out next year, should set the benchmark for Mantic new model range. They sent the last lot back as it was not up to standard, and they put 5 restic models in to ensure gamers had enough figures to get a game with - so they are aware of the need to improve the quality.

Indeed - but a good tip, do not file the models! Unless you have a really good file it damages them a lot, use a very sharp craft knife and you will clean them up really well. My Enforcers were slightly buggered due to the file, but a little greenstuff should fix that.

A few models were badly cast though, mostly Enforcer stuff (Captain had a really bad cloak - almost see through and a nasty horizontal line in it thats a pain to smooth out.)

@ Bob - +1 to that! I had a few spare blades just in case, but I may not need too many of them! The scenery only needed a little 2-3 rasps with a file in the connector slot to work beautifully.

The Scenery for some reason came out really well - just some of the smaller models. Sadly most of my mercenaries were buggered

Quick email to Mantic and hoping that gets sorted out soon. I'll be ordering a retailer bundle soon :)

I've not opened up any of the bags yet so am yet to discover if I'm missing any parts.

I'll slowly do that between now and the New Year.

I played with a guy at my local store last night. He'd supported the kick starter. His figures all seemed really well cast. The scenery was a bit of a bugger to assemble though.

I enjoyed the game, but it was very much the blind leading the blind. But I think it'll be a great game once we've figured it all out ;)

Try playing the quick-start mission a couple of times first before playing a full game: http://www.manticgames.com/SiteData/Roo ... 0final.pdf
