Mhorgoth's Revenge

Mhorgoth's Revenge

Postby mattjgilbert » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:35 pm

I started putting together the models from the Kings of War starter set "Mhorgoth's Revenge" this evening.
Image

You get a lot of models for £40, a real bargain!
The undead

And the Dwarfs
Image

So far I've put together the Dwarf warmachine (Ironbelcher Cannon or Ironbelcher Organ Gun - I've left it unglued so can remain either which is I think the intention from the way it's designed) and a Troop of 10 Ironwatch with Crossbows. I'll do the other 10 with rifles. Before Toby asks, while the pictures were uploading I drilled out the barrels on the warmachine ;)

The detail on the models is pretty good, especially the undead. The dwarf models have a few gaps in them once fitted together (although I got better at it). I'd say overall the quality is that of GWs about 10 years ago (which is still good). At the price they are compared to the current GW range though you can't beat them.

Here are the other 10 Ironwatch with rifles
Image

And one of the Ironclad frames
Image

You get 4 of these and one command frame. However, the Ironclad unit sizes are 10, 20 or 40 so I might see if I can turn 5 of them into Shieldbreakers with those extra hammers you get. A Shieldbreaker Troop is 5 models which would work out nicely.

I just realised I might have to do them all as Ironclads but we'll see. However I also just noticed this insane deal

http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Dw ... gures.html

100 models for £50! 50p each...

I think I'm right in saying, that they are pre-based on the small round bits and then they go into the round hole on the square base???

If that's true, whats the plastic like, re cutting off the small round, to go on a gw one?
Also, does the round hole go entirely through the square base???

Cheers Matt.

No, the hole is about 2/3rds through the base.

For the metal models I've got it would be PITA to cut off the tab, but you could easily stick it with the tab on to the GW bases and use the sand to hide it.

Mantic do metal and plastic. Most are plastic (all the ones in this boxed set are). Some character models and elite units are done in metal. Much like GW really.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to cut off the plastic round "base". You'd have to be careful.

5 shieldbreakers finished

Image

Reading on another forum, making 5 shieldbreakers was was mantic intended you to do with the "extra" 5 models. Not the the box tells you that. It says 25 Ironclads.

I've started on the Ironclad command group now.

I've been thinking. What I might do is put the whole box together, paint everything then do a batrep using just what you get in the box (not that the forces are legal and I'm not sure if they match on points or not!)

Just 5 more Ironclads to go and then the Dwarfs are all assembled. I'l take some pics of the undead frames before I cut the bits out.

I've been working on the undead. I have to say these are some of the best undead models I've seen. They actually look quite menacing and look damn cool.

The skeletons had very little in the way of mould lines - and the detail of the model itself is often used to coincide with the mouds so any lines are cunningly hidden.

Here's the 1st ten with command group
Image

undead giant rat and skeleton emerging from the ground
Image

Because I used the redi-base on this half skeleton I used a GW base for the extra upright skeleton I had (so it is possible to cut away the smaller disc-base if you are careful). The 2nd ten...
Image

The whole unit
Image
Image

The balefire cataplut. Some cleaning up to do on this model but it was really easy to assemble
Image

The ghouls. I did a litle work on the "champion" and gave him a spare skeleton head to make him a little different. Mould lines on these guys needed cleaning up, mostly on the legs but also the arms and heads.
Image
Image

I'm working on the zombies now and they seem really clean casts - hardly any mould lines to speak of.
