UK Kings of War tournaments for 2013

UK Kings of War tournaments for 2013

Postby mattjgilbert » Mon Mar 11, 2013 10:18 pm

The Mantic Pathfinders (demo volunteers) are running a number of Kings of War events this year with all proceeds going to charity (the tournament winner gets to choose which one!)

Getting involved should be really easy. The Kings of War rules and lists are free to download from the Mantic site, you don't have to use any Mantic models and you don't even have to have a painted army! Although nicely painted armies are preferred :)

The ticket price includes lunch on the day.
The regional events are as follows:

Firestorm Games, Cardiff: April 20th. FB Page - Direct Ticket Sales

Marauder Games, Stockport: June 8th. Pages due to go up this week... will update later :)

Tabletop Nation, Hockley: June 29th. FB Page - Direct Ticket Sales

1600 points including allies. Convince your friends to learn to play KoW for a great cause! :D
All tickets include lunch on the day.

The prizes on offer at each of the events have been agreed:

1st place - Winner's trophy. Signed new KoW book with choice of Ogre or Basilean army box on release week. Choice of the charity to receive the day's proceeds.

2nd place - signed new KoW book and an Ogre Unit.

3rd place - new KoW book on release.

Later in the year we'll also be running a final. The top placing players at the regional events will get early access to final tickets. The Mantic Pathfinders (demo volunteers) are running a number of Kings of War events this year with all proceeds going to charity (the tournament winner gets to choose which one!)

I'll be up for the one at TTN, especially as I can get away with not being 100% painted!

Just want to play the game with my Kickstarter goodies!

It's dead simple but great fun. You can easily get several games in in an evening. Having the models pre-painted is great as you can get started right away. You don't need much space for the basic games so you can use the kitchen table easily enough.

A great game for those evenings when you've not arranged anything else or don't have the time for a big game of something.

I got the game plus extra dice (needed!), an A-wing, TIE interceptor and TIE advanced.

Next month I'll try and pick up the y-wing, slave 1 and the falcon.

People here are already talking about getting full x-wing squadrons...

Thunderfire Cannons used to look cool but suck for survivability. Now they are awesome (evidence of one game to be dismissed as required).

Mine pretty much won the game for me. It wiped out all Alex's infantry.

It was only a 1000 point game and I think we forgot some stuff. Plus I was relying on Alex to tell me the rules as I've still not finished reading them. I'll try and pick up the book at some point (as cheap as possible).

Expect £13-14, thats the sweet spot.(exploiting a 10 year old you could get it for £11 but only by taking his lunch money too)
however, if you know people who ran out and bought the giant big hardback..its so unwieldy and full of what I,as a gamer who games, think of as rubbish (pictures fluff addons).. the giant books are actually going for fairly cheap as people ditch them to get something USABLE..
thunderfires FTW??? you guys play weird :D

The SM armies at the Japanese ToS were littered with thunderfires, apparently...

When I played against one (the only time ever) at UKGT it made me fill my pants to start with the number of shots coming out, but then I realised it was lots of bark not so much bite.

(sorry for slight divergence matt) looks at 6th ed
Not Av10 destroyed on first glance, now T7 2 Ws.. Big bump up.
Str 6 shot doesn't have to land centre on any more to get full on vehicle(bye bye rhino walls).
Ignores cover vs nightfight - pretty convenient now that hill brow at 24"s is 2+ save the AP6 seems less of an issue.
Its almost like 6th ed was modified to make it betterer.

Question can servitor squad join techmarine (class as crew?hay I'm an optimist) Closest to closest rule still applies so if servitors could sit in front of it..yum (majority toughness is always ignored against artillery so those servitors in reinforced ruins (ruins not defence lines??) ARE T7. Add couple of plasma cannons.
I can see why they might pop up in tourneys now.
