Tim, don't you ever sleep?

I'm up because I'm having one of those nights where my brain just won't shut down, been happening more and more recently and I'll be a walking zombie at work later today. At 1am I found myself securing a worktop in the kitchen that had worked loose, and I keep checking out the window to make sure that nobody wanders off with any of the turf stacked out the front, and I'm wondering if the car tyre that was flat earlier that I reinflated is flat again as I'll be annoyed if it's damaged as it's only 4 weeks old ...

I'm hoping sitting here watching The Postman will put me to sleep, but then again having the laptop on next to me is a distraction from sleep too, but I just can't bring myself to turn it off till I've checked a bunch of forums.

Right, back to the topic at hand, just ignore my little interlude :)

yes. sometimes. :P

no, Kates on late shift tomorrow, she doesnt leave for work until after 11AM, so we are in no rush to go to sleep - compared to when she is on earlies its only like 11PM now, relatively speaking. so not that late.

besides, im reading something. *cough*

Spack wrote:I'm up because I'm having one of those nights where my brain just won't shut down,

ive always been quite nocturnal. i dont get along very well with daylight, and i worked in pubs and clubs for years too, plus i worked late shifts (start at noon) for a while, as does Kate every now and again. having Seth taught me how to cope with sleep deprivation too. i tend to get by pretty unaffected until i reach burn-out point and need to catch up all my missed sleep in one go (a migraine usually gives me a hint ).

that said, we will be going to bed before too long, just incase he wakes up early and wont let us get back to sleep in the morning...

You sound like me, since I quit work I don't go to sleep until 5AMish. I'm begining to think i've got Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder.

As it was I watched the entire film to the end (interspersed with the odd frantic forums update on the laptop), and it did not cure my insomnia - I did however wish I'd just put a DVD on rather than hoping to drop off. I finally dropped off around 6:30am, and then my wife woke me at 7:30am so I could get ready for work. Friday was interesting, I was buzzing on caffeine and feeling pretty dreadful, but when I got home I felt fine. Went to bed at 10pm, woke at 11pm to my son crying, got up again at 12pm to my son asking for a bottle for of milk, again at 1am wanting his dummy, again at about 2am to him screaming at the top of his lungs for 10 minutes, again at 3am ... and so it goes on.

I let my wife sleep in on Saturday morning as neither of us got more than 2 hours, and I took my son out to play in the garden (well, building site, but it kept him occupied) and out of my wife's hair till the early afternoon. I then went out at 7:30pm Sat night to friends (yes, more than one!) party and got home around 1am, went to bed and was up again at 6am, (thankfully my son slept through).

Suffice to say I didn't get a lot of sleep at the weekend, and I keeled over at 6pm last night (pretty sure it wasn't delayed effect from the postman though) when my son put the BabyFirst channel on - next thing I remember is waking when the sky box flipped channels to Ross Kemp in Afghanistan and the lack of soothing music must have brought me out of it, my son was fast asleep. I then didn't get to bed till after 12:30am, up a few times in the night, and then up at 6am this morning. Here I am at work having had about 10 hours sleep in the past 96 hours - that really cannot be healthy. 8O

My sleeping pattern is fairly good at the moment, (I would attribute it to spending 2-3 hours a day rushing round pushing my daughter to and from various engagements the wrong side of town on foot, I don't own a car and don't trust public transport anymore)
At the peak of my bad sleeping pattern, about 6 years back, (too much computing and other bad things) I was up for 6 days straight.(no cat naps no passing out on the keyboard). I started getting those little ghosts appear in the corner of my eyes, vision went all tunnely, and in a last ditch effort to save myself from the talking curtains of my vision I ran at a wall head first. KO'd slept for 3 days. (warning nutting a wall at running pace is not advised or suggested by any medical body and may cause a shortenig of life span)
