Another newb

Postby chromedog » Mon Nov 12, 2007 6:02 am

Hi there,

I'm a newb here (not a noob - I've been playing with the net since bbs's were k3wl and unix ruled) but I'm a familiar face on several other gaming forums, where I use the same handle.

I came looking for new experiences (and hopefully less 14 yo whining) from other (unnamed, to protect the guilty) forums.

I've been gaming since 1987 (woo, 20 years) and playing 40k since 89 or so and a modelmaker since I was 12. The modelling aspects of the hobby are what keep me here.

Welcome chromedog, nice to see another name I recognise join up.

I was a relative newcomer to the net - started in 94, when BBS's were still alive and kicking but the web was just beginning to get commercialised (and my first 2 sites were e-commerce stores :P), but Netscape Navigator was still a beta release and I think 14000 baud was the cutting edge, although our company still had 9600 , with all of us sharing a single PC running Windows 3.1 with the Trumpet Winsock add-on, but slowly moving to Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (and I dug out my old WFW disks to reinstall on my now revived AcerNote 760iC laptop that I repaired - well, replaced the dead hard drive with a cheap second hand one from eBay - at the weekend with it's 486DX50 CPU a whole 4MB of RAM, and 249MB of hard drive space!).

Wotcha :D
I'm a growed up moaner- if it grates on you, or I get my needle stuck, just give me a slap ( // )
I would have been in that wave (ish 93-94),of early techies, but my first three attempts at BBSing, were whilst owners of the PCs did naughty things, in those sit back and chat whilst you wait for your 15k file to download places, and it always turned out that through turns of phrases or encrypted avatars that I already knew the other folks far to well, so I ran and hid and caught the popular wave (next bus) so I wouldn't just be hanging out with the same scary folks.
The closest I ever got to unix was knoppix  , I'm quite the tourist.
Welcome to the site
