Page three tho was in more detail:

Kingmong was nice enough to share his methods with me via PM, I hope he doesn't mind me posting them. My questions are in white, his answers are in orange.

The first is the base coats - you said you use black but are you spraying or manually painting it on each model before spraying?

I highly recommend GW's chaos black spray because of all the brands I've tried, GW's primer are the most consistent and they dry evenly rather quick without all the stickiness I got from others.

I usually spray 20cm away from the model, and with several thin layers till I get it all the models covered evenly(Do not try to get full coverage in 1 spray as that would cover up all the details.).

Second is the actual spraying - I have fond memories of Tamiya from old days doing model planes and have high hopes for the consistency not having to obscure details! How far are you holding it from the models - what batch size do you spray in?

I only use the spray because yellow is such a pain to paint for an army. Spraying is the most time saving method as it covers big areas evenly. But do take note that Tamiya camel yellow spray are glossy by nature, so you do have to apply a matt coat spray over to get them back to matt yellow. Painting on glossy surface will be a disaster as the paint wont lay over that well.

Again, 20cm and spray in several thin layers. That gives you the best even coverage. I use to paint in 5s or 10s. Now I'm going for 20 at a go. Much more result for your effort at the end.

Third - Inks. 50/50 Gryphonne Sepia and Devlan Mud, but how much water are you putting in? Equal parts (so 33/33/33) or half as much as both inks put together (50 ink/ 50 water) what brush do you use to apply it? How do you prevent it from splotching on the wide, flat areas so well?

I divide the washes by the intensity I need at certain areas of the model. The wash is evenly divided (33 mud/33 sepia /33 water) and goes over the entire model. If I need more intensity, I apply another layer over the dried 1st layer.

Usually I would apply a light wash of water over the model first before applying the wash, this would help the paint flow better and not clotting on wider areas.

I use the Standard brush from the GW range for smaller areas and an old brush of size 2 for the 1st initial layer of wash(covers faster).

Foundations - What foundation colours are you using for the white? (The Veterans in particular interest me!)

I used Astronomican Grey paint from the GW range of foundation paints, thin it down with 50% water. Apply in layers if needed.

Last - Highlights - your stuff is outstanding, but I'm just curious as to what layers/methods you use to highlight.

For yellow, I dry brush my highlights in with golden yellow and followed by a mixture of white, golden yellow and water(33/33/33). I would follow up with edge highlighting with the same mixture but with more skull white and water added.

It's multiple layering until I get the right amount of highlight. I would reserve the brightest for the top half of the model because I paint with a concept of a top down lighting.

Any advice would be super-welcome.

Painting in thin and watered layers in yellow can be frustrating because it may look as if it wasn't there. But several layers later, you will have an even tone overall. Thick layers will cover more areas quickly, but I found out it usually would make the paint very uneven due to the thick paint over each other.

I paint with an imaginary light from the top of the model, so my models tend to look darker from the torso down. That is to generate some realism and to get the model dirty too, does make them look more battle hardened. But that is a theme for my army and everyone can have their personal paint theme.

Great to know another Imperial Fists brethren, I do hope these answers your questions, do let me know if you need anymore information.
