Postby Motorphetamine » Wed Sep 10, 2008 8:44 pm

Evening all :)

I'm Ty, I got sent here by King, whom I know through TauMaul, whom I know through my Dad, who knew Taumaul through Paintballing, ect, ect, and the list goes on.

I'm just getting back into 40k after a 4-5year break, along with some of my friends *who have been on a longer break* gonna give the new rules a go this weekend and get some Apoc games going in a month or so hopefully :D

I currently play Slanesh Chaos Marines, and I'm being rather confused why I can't have my 'Keeper of Secrets' anymore, just a Greater Daemon, but I have only had a flick through the newest Chaos Codex in Brightons GW store. But saying that, I'm always confused, heh.

But yeah, Hi, nice to meet y'all and see ya around the forums.

Ty

Hi Motorphetamine, and welcome to the site! :D

well it is a Keeper of Secrets... just one that is weaker than normal due to the possession process (pro's: doesnt rely on a warp rift to enter reality - con's: physical form isnt as stable and only able to draw on a portion of its full power), and as a result gets represented by a generic statline ingame. or something. ;)

cheers :)

That sucks :( Is there no way to have a 'real' Keeper of Secrets then? And cheers for the answer :)

the "full strength" KoS (with more appropriate statline and abilities) is available in a Codex: Chaos Daemons force.

the only way to get one alongside Chaos Space Marines however is in a game of Apoc, or with opponent's permission to stray from the standard rules in a normal game.

whether using it as a "proper" KoS or as a Generic Summoned Greater Daemon, you can still use the same model from your collection of course, and call it whatever you like (as long as your opponents understand what rues its follows, that is).

hope that helps :)

So other than a few basic Daemons, Daemons are now a seperate army? I thought the newer bits, such as Witchhunters/Daemonhunters were to expand on the rules for those tpyes of units and more fluff *plus to make you buy more books* but could be used along side those types of armys, such as Daemons/Chaos Armies, Witchhunters/Daemonhunters - Imperial Armys, ect *not sure how much other new stuff there is*

I must have a look through at bits then, LOADS of books to buy :(

And I'm not sure if theres any others now :/

So have armys been broken down into multiple armys?

Motorphetamine wrote:So have armys been broken down into multiple armys?

the Daemons in C: CSM have been made generic (and less powerful) so that the book can focus on the Marines themselves. C: CD gives them the limelight in their own right.

all the other armies have stayed the same in this regard, although there are rumours of:
- an Inquisitor entry in the upcoming IG Codex
- a combined Inquisition book (in the more distant future) encompassing all 3 Ordos (Witch/Daemon/Alien Hunters) - although this really is just speculation at this stage

something that has happened is that a lot of the "Appendix" lists have been removed and folded into a single main codex. for example, the different Eldar Craftworlds no longer have their own lists and special rules, but can be represented fairly well using the normal Eldar Codex. same goes for things like the Kult of Speed, which can be built from the normal Ork book. Chaos has had the short end of the stick ( enter KMB for his obligatory rant ;)), but there are rumours that the proper "Cult" forces will be better represented sometime in the future with their own codex book - until then the CSM book allows you to make forces themed to a particular Chaos god (or several gods, if you like), but not like in the old days...

Try before you buy- the chaos codex is really quite messy.(yes some people think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread but you have 6 obliterators 2 demon lash princes and some slightly fluffy troops (such as noise marines) or you have uncompetitive (in the hard core sense of the word).
The troops are very good.(but you have to spend about 6 months getting over how much everything costs) the new slannesh power (the lash) is the most complained about thing in the 40k universe bar possibly siren\ that wulf guy in 2nd ed who took 4 saves one after the other).
Alot of people are looking at the upcoming smurf codex (released in a month I think) to use as a rules base for fielding chaos armies (yep i'm looking too) asi t has so much more versatility (without having to take 6 obliterators)
Good luck and welcome back (and when you read the codex remember there are other codexs)
Barely even lurking..
