Hwyl and howdy

Postby richie2837 » Thu Oct 09, 2008 8:07 pm

Hi everyone, new member here feeling his way (oops! sorry madam...), delighted to find this community exists and that I can buy stuff at a discount - is it me or are GW increasingly charging ridiculous prices? Not that it will stop me collecting, but still - it's only plastic! The artistry and skill which goes into the designs I have always admired, but surely they'd get more people involved in the hobby if it was affordable to the average 12 year old kid? Just a thought...

While I'm here, does anyone know of any modelling/gaming clubs in the Eastern Valleys of South Wales? Would be nice to have somewhere nearby to go rather than an hours drive each time. 'Though I have heard there's a GW to open in Cwmbran - I've tried looking on the GW site for confirmation but it appears to have been taken over by the forces of Chaos.

Anyway, Hi! to everyone...
I have come to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

Welcome to the site, nice to see another new face. The prices are going a bits nuts, I remember buying 9 terminators in a box when I was but a teenager for a mere fraction of the cost now. When you've got a whole room just for your 40k stuff (like I have!) you have to stop thinking about how much it costs or you'll have a coronary :P

As to South Wales, LordMalekTheRedKnight might be able to help there - unfortunately I'm a Cornish migrant living in the big city (Brum) and know bugger all about the land of hills and valleys (other than the 2 Welsh people I knew could drink serious amounts of beer and played rugby).

Thanks everyone - so GW Cwmbran opens this very Saturday? Do they normally do anything special on their opening day, cos it may be worth going along with the young 'uns!

Back in the good old days GW used to make a big issue of store openings - usually buy 3 get 1 free offers on boxes/blisters. These days I'd expect a store opening is full RRP and they steal your wallet on the way in :P

dont forget though, the more the prices go up the more you save with your 20% discount. ;)

Spack wrote:As to South Wales, LordMalekTheRedKnight might be able to help there

heh i was writing my reply as you were typing that. :)

i think you will be a bit too far away from my neck of the woods, although i do occaisionally go to Cardiff to visit the GW and other shops, which might be a little closer.

i thought i had smashed that stereotype. :P
(funny story: when i was a teenager, my GP looked at me and asked "Do you play rubgy, Timothy?", and i replied "No, but i do play chess..." )

i would expect so (even if its just pop and cake). best bet is to ring them, IMO - or ring MO if there is no answer.

glad to help :)

Ooops. "knew" as in "haven't seen them in a few years now" refers to a friend from Uni and his best mate. They took me on a pub crawl in Cardiff, suffice to say I was on cokes after a few pubs while they were putting a couple of pints down per pub ....

The 2 Welsh people I know are completely different ... assuming that we've seen the real you of course :)

Is Kate not Welsh then? :P

2 I knew who drunk a lot were Tony and his mate Powys (could you get a more Welsh name than that???) in the early 90's. The 2 I know are you and Seth, and yes he is a little young yet (maybe next year? ;))

8O I highly doubt this. Stealing wallets on the way in, that's just silly talk. They would neve allow such a thing in their stores. If they did, then how would the store make enough sales when their customers can't pay? No, they wait until the customer is on their way out of the store. Then they have their sales and any money left over in the customer's wallet.

"although i do occaisionally go to Cardiff to visit the GW and other shops, which might be a little closer"

is GW swansea no good for you then? Newport is our closest, and whenever we have a day trip out we bypass Swansea altogether and go straight out to the Mumbles. No offence, but there's something about Swansea that always makes me and the wife have an argument!

Welcome richie2837 - I hope you have a good time here :D

And you win the vote of approval already because you managed to spell "ridiculous" correctly. The number of people on Warseer who spell it rediculous is...well... er....ridiculous ;)

Spack wrote:Is Kate not Welsh then? :P
