Choral wrote:Hello,
I started collecting Eldar about a month ago with my fiance IMF2000.
hi and welcome to Age of Strife! hope you like it here.

my wife Kate is also a member here (
LadyRaven), and plays Eldar too!

DAs are a good solid Troops choice, and Guardians are good in a supporting role - a great start IMO.

I noticed the models come with different weapon sets but to start with I don't want to spend the points on upgrading them while I learn how to use them. Does it matter in the games that the models will have upgraded weapons even tho they will be using them as their standard weapons? No other weapons came in the box for me to stick on the models so I just wanted to check before working on my army list.
that all depends on your opponent.
(or event organiser, if playing in a tournament etc)
most people aspire to (eventually) make their armies WSYIWYG - in short, when a trooper has a certain weapon in the game, the model used to represent that trooper has the matching weapon shown on it. this makes it harder to get confused, as you can tell what everyone has just by looking at the table (it also stops people from being accused of cheating by switching weapons about as they are needed).
of course, as long as you and your opponent dont mind keeping mental notes as to what isnt quite how it looks, then that is fine.
when it comes to treating models that have upgrades shown on them as instead being armed only with basic equipment, then that is definately the
least confusing way of doing it.
we couldnt wait to get started using the
CP forces we were building, so we
didnt wait: we played with what we had ready.
in some cases that meant models with no weapons (or heads!), and sometimes just empty bases with a piece of paper next to them with the unit's name written on it! this is fine in the short term, but the atmosphere of the game is definately improved the closer you get to having everything as
WYSIWYG as possible IMO, so its not something i would want to do for long.
also, being able to concentrate on playing the game, rather than remembering what is what, makes things a lot easier.
now we've finished building our forces with all the right weapons etc, the next step (and improvement to gameplay/atmosphere) is to get them
painted...
anyway, i hope that helps
