Newbie in Edinburgh

Postby beswicks » Wed Aug 29, 2007 7:32 pm

Hi,

Just got back into all things miniature after a 10 year break, my girlfriend ordered me to get a hobby, so I decided that forcing her to spend hour upon hour in our local games workshop would be good punishment for her impudence :D

So far have bought a couple of Ogres and some Chaos Warriors from GW, and lot of paints. Then I stumbled across this shop and decided that if I was getting 20%+ off that I might as well order the new Chaos Marines army deal (god I hope you still have the stock) and face them off against my 10 year old Eldar force.

Will try to upload a few pictures, I think I heard mention of a gallery while I was lurking, of a couple my Bloodbowl team if anyone remembers that game.

lol :D class. well i bet there are a few more of us out there wishing our girlfriends/wives were more like her.

glad to hear you found the site useful, we aim to please :) and yes, presently we have a couple of Chaos Army Deals left, and we're being told again by GW that they are it! I say again coz they often come back to us afterwards and offer more, but not always. they told us the new Apoc Battle Company for SM were not available to us and the 10 Leman Russ boxsets also. But apparently they are now (going on the site this week).

anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing your images. the gallery link is at the top of the forum page or on the left menu on the home page. now you are registered on the forums, you can create a gallery account also. any issues with that just holla!! ;)

oh and welcome to Gaming Figures :)

Thanks for replying.

Well i've uploaded a test photo to the gallery, let me know what you think, and ordered my Chaos Army Deal :D

Sadly I only have the camera on my MacBook and the quality sucks, so I might leave more photos until I find a better way.

Chris.

the 2nd image quality is fine... nice black and white checks on the shoulder pad, that must have been hard to do.

The checks are not actually all that hard, just need a detail brush and a steadyish hand.

And... he's an ogre, so its actually not a particularly small check on his broad shoulders :D

Chris

Edit. Taken a bunch of extra photos of a few more of my Blood Bowl models. Sadly my Eldar are somewhere in my parents house in Lancashire so no 40K photos until I get my Chaos guys :(

Aye they are a lot smaller, but they were painted 10 years ago, as opposed to the ogre a few weeks ago, when my eye sight was much better.

Will post some pics of the chaos guys once I start painting them, after I've finished my ogres and chaos warriors for fantasy... oh and the rest of the decade old orc blood bowl team that is unfinished from before my "break"... and then I think I've got some old eldar in a loft somewhere that need touching up, and not forgetting my orcs, goblins and high elves my parents think need finishing so that I take out of their house...

Mmm, on second thoughts I think I might just crack open the Chaos lot when they arrive and play with my new toys first, doubt I'll manage to paint 3000k's worth before armageddon is released tho. Just don't tell my better half or i'll be in trouble and have to take her shopping as punishment.

Any suggestions for Chaos colour schemes? I am tempted to go with red and black armor with gold and silver / iron trims, and mix up the red / black panels on each marine to keep they all different. Or maybe a dark blue in place of the red, don't really want to theme my army too close to any one god, but if they look cool I don't care. Really like how the Red Corsairs in the new WD look, and they new Huron Blackheart model is pretty, but I don't just want a straight copy of a WD army, cos I will never be able to paint as well as them but more gold / silver might make them different enough. :D

Hi beswick, I saw the Chaos codex today for the 1st time. There were some good ideas in that, so don't go making any decisions till you have read that.

I particularly like the way they have done the various powers but still kept them on the balck legion theme, u'll see what I mean in the book. Maybe you could do the same with your chosen colour scheme so they all look like they belong to a certain warband, regardless of the mark/power they have.
