Welcome forum

Niknokitueu has arrived (finally)

Postby Niknokitueu » Mon Oct 01, 2007 2:57 pm

Hi all, just moving in from WarSeer...

Tried this last week (once I learned of Tim's ban), but got hobbled by my own email system.

I am now good to go, and look forward to joining in future discussions.

My stuff:
I am a Welshman (ie I come from Wales, that little bit of land stapled onto the west side of England...).
I have been into 40k for around 5 years (lost track of exactly how many years already...).
I own around 7500 points of Blood Angels (semi-retired) and around 3000 points of Orks (active army, models range from gorkamorka onwards).
I do not get to play often nowadays (family commitments with a non-gaming wife), but when I do I try to play for fun (honest).

See ya all on the forums,

Have Fun!

I'm looking into the email issue - although the online spamminess tests I've tried it with return a 0.3 SpamAssassin rating for the email content, so I'm not sure there's much I can do to improve it. Those tests don't take into account the message headers though, it's possible that those might tip the scales towards a higher spamminess score.

is it possible to get the addresses of those that have applied but havent actually confirmed their application, so you can send them an individual reply?

Not from the site itself (unconfirmed registrations are automatically deleted from the database after 24 hours), but I could write a script to sift through the mail server logs and pull out addresses that aren't in the user database.

I've added a bold note to the registration page which says that a confirmation email is on the way stating that it might get caught in spam filters, and to be on the lookout. I'm just adding another bit to tell users to use the Contact system to get in touch with me if they haven't had anything in a few hours as I can get the system to resend the confirmation email, or if I can verify the address another way then I can finalise the registration with a single click. I've toyed with the idea of turning the confirmation system off but last time I tried that I had about 80 spambot registrations in a day and loads of spammed links in the news section, took me ages to clean up :(

Welcome Nik, Glad to have you here at AoS. I would like to protest however your choice of avatar. After all, you really can only have one 'Master Jedi'.

Heh - in that case, as I started using mine in 2002 in a hackmaster RPG forum, I claim precedence.

Seriously, though, I can't see there ever being a conflict. Well, not unless Lucas Arts ever tries to enforce it's IP rights...

Have Fun!

ps. Nothing wrong with being Welsh. Some of the most influential people in history have Welsh roots, together with some of the best actors around today. It is surprising just what people will do in order to get out of the country... :D

Nik, I guess you haven't read the welcome post, or the "why is my rank newbie?" post ... :P

I'm of Celtic origin myself (even down to the red hair!) - although my roots are in Kernow, where the language is almost extinct and the hardcore inmates are pushing for devolution.
