I wonder what proportions have been sold to collectors, gamers or ebay resellers.

GW cares not from whence the money flows...... especially as 1st half profits have dipped another £1m this year, and that's versus a bad 1st half last year with Space Hulk, End Times and some of 7th Ed 40k in there.....

I was comparing it in size to Darklands biggest offering and came to the conclusion it's between 66% and 100% more expensive than it "should" be. *shrugs*

Shame really, because as a model it's a stunning piece of work. But that's a serious collectors price tag - and £295 will buy a lot of gaming minis!

Berger, I agree that is a massive price tag, that kind of cash will buy you two complete 1500 pt DzC armies and the rules as well! When I see things like that it just reinforces my decision to give GW the elbow. It is a nice model though.

I don't think anyone is doubting it's a nice model but for the price they are asking you could (probably) get a limited numbers Smaug that is hand scultped AND painted from WETA themselves which would look just as good if not better.
This reminds me of when they put an entire ultramarine chapter on for about £7000, they don't stop to think if they should, they just want to see if people would

I think that's part of the issue I have - there are some people who will pay any price for GW stuff and will shout down those who feel they are being priced out of the game. So now GW are exploiting the staunchest supporters - and surely they only do that for so long?

If the figures Baragash quoted are correct (and I have no reason to doubt him), then I can only see things getting worse in the short term - with GW selling less and less stock, with higher and higher margins. At some point even the investors will have to take notice :?

If I were starting out as a gamer, whether looking for fantasy/Lotr or sci-fi, despite the amazing histories and universes they have created over the last 30 years I honestly don't think I would buy in to GW at this time because I could not afford to. No other reason.

But, as an optimist, I live in hope that this WILL change :)

Two words that will always keep GW afloat. KIDS and CHRISTMAS (or birthdays, ok thats 3) Because regardless of price, parents (or at least those who don't know how to say no) will buy whatever their kids want. Recent examples being the PS4 and Xbox One.
But like you Berger, I appreciate and love some of the work GW has done and I'm saddened that they don't go back to their roots (Necromunda, Mordheim, Gorkamorka etc...) and I hope that they see the error of their ways sooner, rather than later when it is too late

Looking at the price and size, and that its made from 'forgeworld resin', The price doesn't seem out of line with stuff of a similar size, eg warhound titans, and people have lapped up the titans.
However, this is of course comparing GW prices to other GW prices where you can be lulled into thinking something is cheap when its still way over priced.

Well, I managed to avoid saying it's overpriced - just it's a collectors price! :D

If it's comparable to the titans in size - and it certainly looks that way - then they have been consistent with their pricing within their own costing structure.

It is a lot to pay but as previously mention further up it is FW resin and a big piece.
As for pricing. I also object to paying higher prices for GW minis. But as a military modeller for many years and coming to 40K late in life I have to say the minis are very good.
However. Compare the death storm box set at £75 to the retail price of the individual sets and this is a massive saving.
To me it's swings and roundabouts.

The point to remember on pricing is this:

If you are over 19 years of age, you are not GWs target audience, any sales to you are a pure bonus.
