I'm as cynical as you!
I pledged the money after checking the site and I have also been on cool mini or not for a few years, so I figured it was worth it.

Looking through the comments on the kickstarter site, there are a few people over the pond who had the same questions and concerns. It would seem that they are adding in about $25 US for shipping at this time, but are asking if a local game dealer in the UK is going to carry the game to eliminate the international shipping rates.

No answer from CMON as of yet.

Having watched the video, I like the escalation method in this game, for solo play thats quite a fun mechanism.

As its a CMON product I shall probably order it once its out (if it doesn't get a UK distributor) as I do order figs from them from time to time.

Mall of horror is one of those ones that retails at 45 quid, but if you know a trader it should be a bout 25.

I'm currently umming and arring about getting the lords of waterdeep. Its meant to be D+D but the fluff is a light dusting (e.g. those white cubes are priests, orange are your fighters" "right I win 2 white cubes and 1 orange" "shh you mean priests and a warrior"
Really nice quick game for 3-5 players...just trying to work out if I should stop hording though, especially since my wednesday group who exclusively board games already have it.
Barely even lurking..

Backed now. Just an update for those that may be interested. Project is now pushing $130k and will likely hit to $140k mark which will mean for those backing $100 you get teh game, picture, t-shirt, extra dice, and a whopping total of 101 figures for that $100 price. Thats less than a $1 per figure. Sounds like a deal to me.

Don't think the shipping is dependent on the backing. The backing is just to get the game produced and out.

There's like 9 days left for backers to pledge money for the game.

Web site says it is expected to hit the shelves August 2012.

As jlong said, for $100 US you get the game and all the goodies.

UK players need to add $25 for shipping.

But they must have a total they need to hit before they start production?

As indicated on the kickstarter site, they are already fully funded. The project initial funding needed was only $20,000. That was the base goal.

Well, they did, their goal was set at $20,000. They have now far surpassed that goal so they are now giving more bonusus with a certain level ($100) which includes the full game and a bunch of extras.

If you read through Kickstarter's site, it's not necessarily to generate revenue to begin production (though it could be) but it's more about gaining support and funding to give the product a successful start, hence kickstart.

In this case, instead of trying to distribute an unknown game to a bunch of retailers, have it maybe sell or maybe sit on the shelves, you take the game and put it out on kickstarter. You now have sold a number of units (in this case, over 1000 people have pledged enough for a copy of the game) before the game even hits the retail sites. Moving that many units as soon as the game is released is a very successful launch.

When you look at the site and at the Guillotine Games site, you see what looks like a mostly finised game. The minis have been sculpted and produced, the game rules and cards appear to be done, and the graphics for the game board are done. It looks like the game board only needs to be mounted on cardstock and the game can be finalized, but of course I have no way of knowing that.

The game was also "unveiled" at Adepticon 2012 and it would appear that it was well received there because at that time there was a substantial jump in the number of backers.

I opted for it because looking at the video of gameplay, it looks like a simple enough game that my kids would want to play it. I showed them the gameplay video and they want to know if the game is in the mail already! So it looked like a good product. Time will tell if I'm right. But the price wasn't bad, especially as jlong said when you see the number of minis you're getting for your $100!

The Guillotine Games site says that the game will hit the stores in August 2012, so it would have to be more than 90% finished right now to make that deadline. The additional funding might just jump the release date up a bit.

But, again, some of this is just conjecture on my part, but looking around the various sites it seems the most logical.

I doubt release date will change now. In fact the game is finished, allowing 3 months to print/manufacture/sort and box is about right if you have booked the runs in advance.
