Royal Mail paint restrictions

Postby berger15 » Fri Dec 06, 2013 12:46 pm

Ok, some of you may have heard, but I feel it's easier to post this.

Royal Mail are to restrict the shipping of paints to a maximum of 4 (yes FOUR 8O ) pots to a package, each of no more than 150ml. Most of use here probably use GW, Vallejo or something similar, measuring 12-15ml per pot. These will still be capped at four per package, meaning the box sets some of us get when new sets are released, could no longer be shipped via RM.

There is a petition to try and get RM to amend this impending rule.

http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/r ... sed-paints

Hopefully a few of you may be inclined to sign. :D

I wonder what happened to cause them to bring in this policy?

Thanks Matt.

@fyzz08 - maybe they didn't like small tins of paint leaking during transit, having been thrown and kicked all around the sorting office? ;)

Surely short of x-raying packages they aren't going to know if it's paint pots in box?
I'd still send them.

Surely short of opening the/using a chemical sniffer they won't know the substance is harmless too (although thats not really relevant  )
so they say each item must be less than 150ml, and you can't have more than 4.. So you can't post more than 600ml..as In the royal mail are saying.. please don't post more than a pint of paint to your mates, when it goes wrong it goes very wrong.
After that its just minutiae of special interests wanting it too be more complex..
big fat meh.

I'm more upset that they are forcing an antiquated measure on people

Well I don't know what you guys are planning around here with paint and small figures and games I never heard of. The only thing I know is that is a stupid restriction and has to be removed.

I signed. Apparently from the site I went to to sign, the royal mail doesn't want to take the chance on our small paint pots disrupting the system. But a full 1 litre bottle of vodka can be shipped with no problem! Maybe because it is colorless?

Anyway, from the site, "Packages which breach this policy are identified by x-ray and then sent away to be destroyed. Repeat offenders will then be prosecuted." Oooohhhh, sounds serious!

And there was this update on 11/27, "Update - 27th November

The petition has been discussed during a conference call at Royal Mail today, so at least we've got their attention! Unfortunately, at this stage, they have decided that there will be no changes made to the restrictions.

We have also now been given a reason for the restrictions, which is that it's to 'safeguard the rest of the mail in the system from potential damage'. Now this is perfectly understandable, but there is still no reply on how 5 x 17ml pots of paint can cause more damage than 4 x 150ml pots? Or how 1 litre of whiskey in a glass bottle is seen as an allowable risk, yet a 200ml pot of acrylic paint isn't?!

So, we have some answers, but still no real progress on these illogical restrictions, and the potential to amend them."

I signed, and will keep an eye on this. @berger, have you posted this on any other sites?

@ timewizard - as Matt said!

I only posted on here as I had not seen it and thought it may be relevant to a few people - we all like to paint minis as much as game with them.
