EBay Wonderbuy!!! (Please note intense sarcasm!!)

Postby Galador » Wed Feb 08, 2012 12:40 am

Wow, I guess its a good thing I needed something to practice airbrushing on.... But I cant beat what I got for only $102.50!!
Total list of all models:
1 Dias of Destruction
1 Ravager
1 Raider
1 Hellion
1 Archon
1 Drahzar, Master of Blades
1 Kruellagh the Vile (who will probably become my Lady Malys)
1 Talos
11 Jetbikes
36 Warriors

Now, at first I just thought the pictures weren't that great on the Ebay bid, and that it was a camo scheme, but upon receiving them, I found out that its just someone was really, really lazy on some of these and just brushed on random brushstrokes for fun.....

I thought they looked hideous on the ebay listing, but I was wrong!
They are way beyond hideous! 8O

But the good news is that the fix is simple...green that is!

Nothing that a few days in simple green can't take care of, although some might benefit from a little longer "bath"!

Well, you did say you wanted something to test your new airbrush on, I think you got your wish!

Looking forward to seeing the "after" shots!

I thought this was going to be on the fake 1st/2nd ed resin casts being imported over ebay.. (there is some shoddy crap coming over in buckets) was just heavy weapons.. now its whole tanks.
Instead its just that a 8 year old wanted to play warhams one summer and gave you a bargain? Next you'll be saying he didn't even coat them all in melty glue to the point at which its the stumps of their shins connected to the bases, just to make me jealous.

Looks a mighty fine purchase to me... :D

Is that it? I'd have killed for simply a bad paint job on some of the auctions I've "won".

For instance, the Leman Russ tanks that looked ok in their small pics but would definitely need a new paint job, which arrived covered in rubber glue and with the turrets glued on upside down! Or how about the Necron army for my brother-in-law, which arrived loose in an empty beer bottle box (not a rigid card one, the really thin flexible ones) with some balls of newspaper thrown in, and pretty much the entire army was in pieces when it arrived.

I agree with KMB, does look like a great purchase to me at that price :)

Sounds like a steal. Just some work needed to rid them of the "paint" scheme and you've got a real bargain there.

Good work getting the model you were after at the same time :)

I think most of us have had similar experiences with fleebay, you should check out some of my vehicle restorations I'm working on at the moment. Just view it as a challenge bud ;)

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am very happy with my purchase! Its just this was my first purchase of models over Ebay, and I realize I am not the greatest painter, but I have never, NEVER, see anything this bad before and had to share! Also, where we are talking about covered in glue, each and ever jetbike and vehicle was glued to its flying stand, and there are now a total of two jetbikes that havent broken theirs and none of the vehicles are intact, but good thing for me, I bought magnets to fix that situation.... now I just have to drill all the pegs, scrape the mounds of glue off, and give these guys a good long bath and scrubbing!!!

I will set this Ebay purchase up as a separate project so that you can see the progress I make along the way, time!

Just remember - anything on eBay will be badly painted and put together with far too much glue and with parts in the wrong place, barring very exceptional items which are either new (either blister/box or on a sprue), or won't be a bargain price ;)

Looks like a bargain to me, well done!

Don't know about you, but I get a lot of satisfaction (or perverse punishment, who knows?) out of trying to bring back something that bad.

Good luck with it!

So far, I only gave up on 1 project, some guardians with sand bases up to their waists half a mile thick, with so much poly glue they looked like bizarre underground rock floes.
Oh yes, 1 had a falcon pulse laser as a shoulder weapon.
At least these were given to me, though.

Do have 2 rhinos that are rotten.
Didn't know plastic was biodegradable.
So bad, in fact, they jumped from the night lord pile to the deathguard ... shudder.

Looks a great deal to me!

I've been lucky with eBay-everything I have bought has been fairly good. Worst I probably had was an AoBR dreadnought-MM arm was poly cemented facing downwards, but nothing a He-Man effort couldn't get off. I got it for £3.20. Best thing is I managed to cut off the SB and put on a HF. I also shaved off he symbol on the front of the body and put on some brass etch. It now looks half-decent. I'll try and put a pic up at some point, as it's the first completed model in the salamanders army I'm putting together... I feel a new blog coming on...

I have to say my latest steal off Ebay was a forgeworld veteran red scorpion army - 2 tac squads, all with vet helmets and most vet bodies, hand picked matching shoulder pads opposite the FW RS ones, 10 veterans in FW RS pads, bodies and heads, A landraider with FW icons and doors including ALL the weapon option turrets already made up on their mountings for magnetising, 5 honour guard made up and a rhino with separate FW doors. All fo the mdoels were well assembled and pinned, bases sanded already for painting and the workmanship was as good as I would have lavished upon them myself. IIRC the total 'new' proce from GW and FW for the parts would have been in the region of £160 and I got them for a mere £50! I almost felt sorry for the guy I won them off. ;-)
