Helmet/Head Conversion help

Postby Jay » Wed Mar 28, 2012 9:41 pm

Hey chaps after a bit of a break and a re-assement I have decided to build my own heads for my Helghast imperial guard and cast them using the brilliant instant mold/rapid hold stuff. Because I lack sufficient modelling skills I am basically attempting to kit bash my master build to replicate. To that end I am looking for a 28mm or 1/48 PAGST helmet. If anyone knows of a range please point me in that direction!
I tried empress miniatures but they where to small (and judging by the pics I have seen Eureka miniatures are smaller still). Pig Iron's heads are to much in the style of the M35 (german ww2 helm) and I plan to use there heads in another project (as are Warfactory's shock troopers). The helmet needs to fit FW scale 28mm (smaller then regular GW 28mm) as I'm using a Chaos renegade or pig iron (which is the same size) as my 'base' head. I've put a bid in for some the old Starship Troopers Light troopers but I'm not holding my breath, if anyone fancies the challenge of modelling a master for me however I'd be willing to pay a few quid.

Cheers!

You may well find 1/48th too small, try 1/35th from the likes of Tamiya/revell/Italeri etc.

Looks a lot like Death Korps to me. You could buy an army of those & modify the heads slightly. It might make an eaier start point than another model range...

I note that the artillary crew for Death Korps is only £11, and will net you 3 heads to practice on. But obviously you'd need to buy the whole army afterwards. Wouldn't you.

DKoK are too German in there shape, there helmets are based off WW1 style helms (name escapes me). I've checked out Westwind's and Puppet wars, again same issue. The primary issue is the rounded 'edge' that flares out in german style helms, where as modern helmets 'edge' tucks in. I'll keep looking.
