Knight Preceptor Canis Rex with all weapon options

Postby Spack » Sun Oct 21, 2018 1:36 pm

Started putting Canis Rex this weekend. It's just about ready for the start of painting, I've left all of the leg armour plates off and a few other parts to make painting a little easier, so it's looks a bit bare at the moment, but I did magnetise all of the weapons so this Knight can represent any of the variants.

Sir Hektor will need painting before mounting under the top hatch. Still not sure whether I'll prop the hatch open, or add a magnet so it can be removed for display.

Base coats on Sir Hektor as the pilot. Need to get this and the cockpit finished first so I can glue them into the top armour. Then it's on to the Knight itself.

Decided that rather than glue the top hatch into position with the support pistons, that it would instead be hinged so it could be closed during games. I cut off the little hinge ends on the hatch and enough plastic from the hull so that I could glue a pair of 2mm X 1mm magnets at each side. These not only allow the hinge to rotate, but if needed I can get remove the hatch completely. The magnets are strong enough to hold the hatch in up.

Rough base coat is done. Forgot how much of a pain white is. Going to need lots of thin coats to even it out.

Hopefully when I use Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade it'll add some depth to the colours and pick out the details.

I'll start on the weapons once I'm happy with the body.

Still loads to do, but added some washes and base coated two of the weapons.

I think I've finished painting this now. I'll leave it dry properly for a few days, then if I don't feel the need to tweak any paint I'll add the decals and call it done.
