You can leave any bone as white undercoat and nothing else. That's what I do. I don't highlight it at all after dipping. You need the matt varnish though :)

It is QS straight over white spray, by base I meant the model's literal base, not base coats ;)

I thought about just leaving it after dipping, but I do prefer the light bleached bone/skull white highlight just to take the edge off the dip :)

Just done these little fellers, apologies for the photo quality but the light here isn't good and I can't get at my extra light sources right now :(

They do have red eyes, I know it doesn't show up that well.

Done a tiny bit more work, but just been playing around trying to figure out how best to take pics (I used my tripod this time.....oo'er  ). I decided there was too much brown so I matched the handle on the axe to the trousers (the trousers have also had an ink to darken them as the base was too light for me).

Looking pretty good there.

I've found that taking pictures is mostly about light quality. A diffused light source combined with natural light usually gets the best pictures. I've also taken to not using the Macro setting. If the resolution is big on the camera, take the pictures from further back and then just crop for display.

Thanks, I'll give it a try next time :)

It was done at night, but in the last 2 I was experimenting with different positions for the daylight bulb I've got, though (and I think this can be seen from the (lack of) light on the face, they were both from above. I'll try it level with the model for the next one (lead wasn't long enough and was too tired to change set-up at that point).
