Resin Miniature, looking for primer on how to prep and paint

Postby estarriol » Wed Jun 01, 2011 12:57 pm

Ok, I bit the bullet and bought myself a 28mm resin Figure. She is not Citadel Finecast before anyone asks.

So how do I prep her for painting etc. Having opened the packet and seen the finess of the detail I am tempted to attempt to bribe a painter to do her for me...

Anyway, advice on prepping and the little bit of assembly, wrist joint to fix her hand and gun onto the main fig.

What are my pitfalls etc?

Warm soapy (fairy) water and an old toothbrush to scrub off any release agent. Halfords grey spray primer once dry.

I work with resin all the time. For small pices like 25mm people Locktight super glue is ace. Just make shure there is no paint on the 2 joining halfs. As for cleaning and primeing An old sonic scrubing brush/tooth brush is ace. As well as hot water and carexz soap. As far as Primeing Iv always yoused Chaos black spray paint. If cleand propaly you will never have a problem with it.

White spirits. It doesn't harm the resin. But it will remove the mould release agents. I have used it on FW models, MicroArtStudio resin bases and some resin pieces I bought on Ebay. (But I haven't tried on finecast) Its worked on everything I have tried it on.

Simply dip the pieces in the Whitespirits for a few seconds (I have even simply dipped an old brush in the whitespirit and brushed it on and its worked)
Then rinse it under the tap for a few seconds and allow to dry. (You can brush if you wish, but I feel its un nescesary in most cases)

And Citadel paints WILL stick after this. I have even half dipped a resin base in the whitespirit once, then rinsed with water and then painted. The paint stuck perfectly to the dipped side, and not at all on the non dipped side.
