Many questions! okay:

The base colour is metallic. It's not a very good pic I'm afraid. The recipe is: Black undercoat, heavy drybrush Beaten copper (old cote d'arms GW paint), chestnut wash, high light back with beaten copper. The blue is enchanted blue, vortex blue ink (yes the original one) then highlight back up with enchanted blue. The other shoulder pad and helmet are bleached bone, chestnut wash, highlight back with bleach bone.
This is the colour scheme for my friends 'vanilla' chapter the Deaths Head which he has been collecting with since rogue trader. I decided to collect a small force and follow his colours. I play the 5th company with elements of the 1st (need some terminators...!).
The sand: it's normal GW sand that I lightly sprayed black, then white. Let it dry, then scrap it off the box and mix up. What you get is some black, some white and some natural sand. It was an experiment to get an ash waste look that turned out a bit different than expected. I've done my marines, orks and chaos dwarfs with it.

Well finally finished my Swordmasters, so freshly done the PVA on the command groups static grass isn't even dry. Total nightmare, 2 weeks painting 8-10 hours a day! The biggest problem I had was the scale, unlike the Spearmen the scales are quite widely spaced so when I tried to drybrush them the brush kept going between the gaps and leavingsilver in the shading. I ended up painting and highlighting every scale by hand, that didn't take long at all! Looking at the Sea Guard, which I am doing next, I think I'm going to have to do the same with them as well. Deep joy. Quite happy with the standrad as it was my first proper attempt at wet blending but the horn could have been a bit better for me but that was the very last thing I paintied and by that point I just wanted them finished! Pictures are a bit naff as it was done on my phone but best I can do at the minute.

Those elves look great. The time spent on the scales reflects in the finished product.

yes, they look excellent

I sprayed up all the ghouls and zombies from the VC army I picked up last year and also their compatriots from mantic from the MR starter set. I used the oft recommended halfords grey primer which covered really well.

Lots of batch painting for me coming up next!

My workbench, painting table is totally clear.

Sadly not through finishing anything but because it is all packed away as on the 1st April I shall be moving to Clowne.

Karma has a bitch and at the moment it is me...

I've been repainting loads of terrain to all match up. I'll do a group shot with it all done together as it's a bit boring otherwise!

Nice Elves Mark. Do you actually do any work over there apart from painting? :D

Not really, mate! It would be the perfect job apart from being away from home and working for the French!

Just smile smugly at them in the knowledge that we (the British) have not lost to the French since 1066

I suppose technically they won the Hundred Years War as well, but we gave them a few damn good thrashings on the way!

No, but they did win the war against Henry VIII when they retook Calais.
