I bought some power spray this morning on the way down to feed and muck out the horse. Once home I promptly place the skyray body in a small plastic draw and covered it in the stuff. And then because I have been toying with the idea of re painting shadowsun to fit with the rest of my army I decided to chuck her in as well.

I took shadowsun out and scrubbed her clean about half eight this evening and the glued her back together. I have opted to used plastic vanes on the drones rather than the old metal ones.

I've been picking at the skyray all day and then soaking it again. Seems to be getting there so thanks for all the advice. :-)

Having used army painter red spray on a lot of my new khorne models I found it turned out very powdery. Not sure if I've mentioned this before. A few guys have had the same issue also with their sprays. The white also doesn't finish properly and the washes don't seem to run off as well I've been told, or run off too well, I forget which now. Anyhow......

So I've decided I'm going to soak all the powdery ones and start over. So this fairy power spray I buy from tesco maybes?....

And do I have to have the model submerged or just sat in it and then brush over occasionally?

If the fairy spray is like simple green, and I et the feeling it is, then the models need to be submerged for a period of time.

How long depends on the thickness of the paint and how old it is.

Nige. I've found that it doesn't remove aerosol primer that well. Any model I've stripped using power spray had always had the primer base coat pretty much left on unless I really, really scrub hard.

I use Mr Muscle Nige, but have only stripped Citadel undercoated models with it so far.

I also find Army Painter can occasionally come out a bit grainy.

I've found that there are a considerable number of factors that can contribute to getting a "grainy" or "powdery" finish from rattle cans.
These include, but are certainly not limited to;

How long the can has been shaken
How long you spray until you shake the can again
Ambient temperature where you are spraying the paint
Temperature of the can of paint while painting
Temperature of the model while being painted
Temperature of the model or ambient air while the model dries
Distance from the model the can is held
Thickness, or thinness of the coat of paint

Any or all of these can contribute. Best rule of thumb is:
When you reckon you're done shaking the can, shake it for another 15 seconds
For each 10 seconds of spraying, shake the can for 20 seconds
Make sure the model and the can of paint are warm before you begin
If the can of paint is very cold, place it in a container or hot, but not boiling water for about a minute
A couple of light coats applied about 8-10" from the model is best
After spraying the model, place it in a warm, dust and draft free spot until it dries

where did you copy and paste that from LOL

good advice. the temperature thing could have been an issue. I spray in the brick shed I have. Its cold in there. So I'm usually taking my warm model to the cold shed, spraying with a cold can and not shaking it for minutes on end.

I now have a heater in there and keep cans in house. So now I preheat the shed for a good 15mins, take models and cans cross the cold garden - 10metres - to warm'ish shed, spray and bring back to house to dry... better results so far. :)

Glad to hear!
The cold is usually the first culprit.

Oh, and BTW, that was copied and pasted from experience!

Skyray has been stripped and all the thick paint that was left on it previously has gone. I still had to pick at it with a scalpel but it came away easier than before. So thanks to those who gave advice. :D

Came out good RoJ. The result was well worth the effort.
