Really like the lighting in the 2nd shot. What are you using for your studio setup?

I'm gonna set myself some more realistic goals this month and add to them as I go I think. Ideally I'd like to get a few more City Tiles done for Epic and finish off the Marine elements that I have based up. 40k wise, I've got a Land Speeder, Stern-guard squad and Devastator Squad for me - and 2 Penitent engines + Karamazov (sp) for Lis's Sisters / GK that have been on the bench for waaaay too long. Theres 2 squads of GKs as well (1terminator, one standard marine) Beyond that, there's Van Horstmann for this months comp, and anything else that comes along.... It's funny that although we dont really play a lot of 40k (still need to get the rules down) it's the most prominent system on the painting table.....

I'm using a couple of fixed 100wt daylight bulbs, and built in camera flash with home made diffuser. I'm aiming for some proper studio flash lights this year.

I'm not a Nid fan, but you have done a very nice job on these. The paint work is clean without making them look overly clean.

And I love the lighting effect on the photos. How is it achieved? On older cameras I'd have said, slow shutter speed. But I really have no idea these day.

Nice work all round mate!

camera setting is slowing shutter speed to a few seconds. Mostly just playing around with the lights on the last shoot.

Really nice Light painting - makes me want to get back out with the camera (realising just how little time I've spent with it recently).

Small update on my goals - Grey Knights and Stern are probably about 70 percent complete and keep distracting me from this months Comp.

Ghost Busters - Mk40000

The base next to Stern is a mock-up of the Lava style I'm going to use for the GK force (with some changes to the painting) Alongside the painting this week, I've made up molds for 5 different small troop base and one large troop one. Will cast up a set once the models are finished. This will be the second style of cast bases that I have. Our normal marines are on a generic rubble style.

Almost got the first two of Lis' Vanguard Vets done and the two penitent engines should be wrapped up by the end of the month (them and the grey knights have some pretty similar areas left to work on.

I got some nice presents for my birthday yesterday! Angron and the Warmaster plus some MKIV marines to match. I'm doing a small 30k force just as something simple with loyalists made up of Loken's / Saul Travitz companies and traitors in the form of World Eaters.

Awesome :) I keep hovering with my finger over the buy now button on a load of 30k stuff, but end up wimping out. Need to learn to finish what's on my table / in boxes before buying new shiny. Well, except the Primarchs, they are for display rather than playing :)

Small update on the Grey Knights, not done much as I need some breathing space after finishing the dragon - but have lava'd up the bases in a more coherent style....

Hot Lava!

Bases for my first GK squad, and one for Stern :) Hopefully should have them finished before the end of the month...

I like how you did them stu!

One question, with all that hot magma on there, how do you keep the plastic from melting? :D

its a yellow undercoat, then bleach bone base coat, then white scar heavy drybrush.
I've kept it to 6 paints (including the base) to make things easy and simple when painting a horde army.

this months painting competition entry, but these photos show it next to the old armorcast haruspex, and a current plastic carnifex for size comparison.
