Real cheap option is ronseal quick drying woodstain but you need to experiment with colours which means forking out for test colours). You get a load more for about the same price or less as the Army Painter stuff.

I got my army painter dip (strong shade) from Maelstrom games.

Herne wrote:Model looks great Matt - espescially like the inking around the sword carvings.
No inks here... it's straight metal paint and then dipped.

Herne wrote:This range was one of my favourite ranges of models. Have one of most of the old realms of chaos champs which I use as chosen in my chaos army.
I still think they are some of the best models they have ever made and to this day can sit alongside the existing ranges and not look small or out of date. I had a blitz on eBay just after Christmas and managed to get hold of lots I had missed out on or lost along the way.

I took skulltaker last night (idiot died to instability before even getting to attack anything!). Anyway, he was a blip in the army as he was unpainted.. so I addressed that this afternoon:

For the first time in several millennia, skulltaker has a bath:

He's now sunning himself. Will post a pics later once he's completed.

I did realise looking at the pictures I forgot to paint his finger nails. I'll fix that once the dip has dried.

I really will do the furies next I think...

Apparently, deamons in fantasy are the ultimate cheese and it’s really hard to take an army and not win. Try telling that to my lot. Three games, 1 draw and 2 loses so far... the last one after 3 turns.

Very nice, as usual Matt! I really like the way the skulls came out using the dip method. Looks like it beats using a wash both in ease of technique and finished results.
Maybe once the new site is up you could do a step-by-step tutorial!

That would be it! I know you have a lot on your plate, but a tutorial on dipping in general and maybe another on the way you do your building ruins would be great!

Oh dear, look what I got distracted with...

Image

It needs a lot of greenstuff, not only for gap filling and fixing mis-fitting pieces but also to add strength on those wings (very small contact area with the body.

I'm going to still try and get the furies done or at least started this weekend... and tear myself away from this beast.

Oh and as an aside, if you fancy viewing something less daemonic, BDA and I took a load more pictures of his Eldar the other night. The vehicles are not photographed yet but there is still a silly number of pointy-eared xenos there: http://www.thedragonstears.com/gallery. ... army=eldar

Like with his Tau, we will eventually do a big group shot.

Dipping is more a wash and varnish in one, like those combination shampoo's, you just wash and go with dip.

You probably shouldn't try it on sheep though.

Absolutely not! 8O Sheep dip is an entirely different process! :D

I have a bit of a production line going
Image

8 furies painted Calthan Brown and then drybrushed Elf Flesh
8 furies painted Mordian Blue and drybrushed light blue.

Wing membranes washed in various GW washes.

Beast of Nurgle painted totally in Gretchin Green to start with.

Image

Beast needs drybrushing and purple patches adding. Furies need teeth, claws and eyes painting. Weather is crappy so if I get them dipped by the end of the day they will likely not be ready to spray until tomorrow afternoon and then it depends on the weather so I don't know if I'll be able to spray them up then or not.

Nice. Production line method is the way to go, you've gotten a lot of models painted in (I would guess) a rather short period of time.
Looking good now, should look even better after dipping. Hope the weather clears up for you!

Furies and beast pre dipping

Dipped and ready for spraying

I cheated and re-drybrushed the wings on the furies and also did a little white dry-brushing on the beast. The wings were drybrushed progressively lighter towards the ends.

Here they all are completed:

And here are all the daemons painted up so far:

I think the Masque will be next and the LOC needs green-stuffing as mentioned. Then it'll be a unit of bloodcrushers.

The LoC has been (in a very non-expert kind of way) "green-stuffed". Just got the base to sand and then it can be sprayed up (going for a white undercoat). If got a picture of it so far but it's at home and I'm in work....
