Re: Hernes Chaos Plog - Brass scorpion WIP update 3 *New*

That's total, although I havent been keeping a propper count on the time. 40 hours is approx. Could be a little more or a little less. Getting tired of it though! Now I'm on the silver framing for the plates on the main body - things should pick up speed though.

Metallics completed underneath, and have now started on the plates. Here's a semi-stage by stage. (I started the photos, then forgot to take one after the ink stage!)

Stage 1 = Boltgun metal

Stage 2 to 5 = gold, wash with ink, gold layering again, then silver/gold mix

Onto the red now, then varnish and finished! :D

Doesn't look like it's going to be done. Just no time left to do it, and it's taken too long on the damn pipes! :( Don't think I can make the Apoc now anyway. At least it will be finished - and based - for the next one. I'll hopefully have the blood crushers and plague ogryns done by then too, so I can do a Forgeworld apoc list! :)

Oh - it will be! It's only going to be allowed out of the display cabinet for the odd game. :)

Onto the red. Wanted to match the plates in with the flyers i've painted already, and will match this on the blood-slaughterers when I get to them. I'm using a 'streaky' finish to make the plates match the finish on the flyers - a sort of 'washed with gore' effect. Each layer of colour leaves the edges of the plate underneath revealed to build up the intensity of the colours. Here are the 3 stages:
1) MP paints 'Burgundy
2) Vallejo 'Gory Red'
3) MP paints 'Bright red'

Stage 1:

Stage 2:

Stage 3:

The plates are fairly quick to paint, so hopefully I can get through the rest of them over the course of the week.
C&C welcome. :D

Finished the top plates now - just the front plate and tail plate before deciding wether the legs and side plates should go red.....

True = haven't had time to tinker with it yet....

Few decisions to make yet about other plates on the body before I decide how to assemble and base it.

Paints are:
1) MP paints 'Burgundy
2) Vallejo 'Gory Red'
3) MP paints 'Bright red'
Any paint range whose paints are a similar tone would do though. Have applied 2 to 3 layers of '1' then a couplle of layers of '2' using thin bristle strokes and 'translucent' layers, followed by a couple of coats of '3' each time revealing more of the coat underneath. It's a bit of a 'by eye' thing rather than sticking to a strict amount of paint.
