Re: Hernes Chaos Plog - Brass scorpion WIP update 6: Top plates

Postby Herne » Mon Mar 21, 2011 9:03 am

HELP! I can't decide! There's a couple of options I can take at this point and I'm not sure which to do, so I thought I'd get peoples advice. (I'm leaning more toward option C below at the moment, but not sure if it would be the right decision.) I'd appreciate it if people would look at the pics, then the choices below and give me their advice:

Do I

A Leave the side plates and legs black, Paint the front claws red?
B Paint side plates, legs and claws red to match top plate?
C Leave plates and legs black, paint back of claws red and front with chevrons like the pic below.

What do I do!?

Option D.

Leave the side plates black but paint the legs and claws red. The black side plates then leave a dark underbelly and give you a 2-tone "skin".

Yellow might be a nice spot colour but if you were to do that (on the claws*) I think you'd need to add it to a third place on the tail somewhere to create a triangle and some balance.

*I'd also perhaps do it at the back of the claws instead of the front...maybe.

IMO the legs should be red. I can see black or red working for the side plates, but I think people might see it as "unfinished" if you leave them black.

Chevrons don't work for me personally.

I would do the front plates red like the ones up the spine, and then touch up detail and finish.

I think if you do up the legs and claws to match the body, it will bring the color scheme together nicely.
Then having the side plates stay as they are will make them look like they are supposed to look that way and not look unfinished.
Incredible painting job no matter what you decide Herne.
Absloutely fantastic!
Oh, and FWIW, the yellow chevrons IMHO would look terrible (on this model) and the colors of them would detract from the beautiful job you did on the back plates. The eye would be drawn to the bright (in comparison) yellow and would not focus on the red plates.

Thanks guys - good advice. I think I will paint the lower legs (the longer plates) with the red, and use the red on the claws. The spot colour chevrons are perhaps not the best idea. I might leave the upper leg (thigh plates) and the side plates black for the 'under-plates' idea.

Yeah - but he also likes black. See Chaos boys like black. That and big dark glasses. Plus the black goes well under the red blood. Makes it really glisten. ;-)

I lost the fingers and the tip of the blade, but luckily I got another one cheap on Ebay - so I can keep one as the purist model, and adapt the other one with some suitable weapon replacements. Not sure what though. Gives me two similar sorcerers for my twin sorcerer list. Cue fluff about two twisted and diseased twin brothers. Not sure what hands / weapons to use on the damaged sorcerer yet though. Bits box is looking sparse on suitable replacements.

The finished brass Scorpion. It took too many hours to think about! Well over 100. I still need to create some kind of base, but that can wait for now. Whadya think folks?:
