Hehehe :D

I always have too many irons in the fire. In fact right now I'm at a loss cause I've got a huge case of painters block. 8O This is why I'm focusing on conversions. I gotsta be productive.

Mine aren't irons in the fire as such - my irons are standing by the doorway waiting for me to get off my ass and take them to the fire :P

Hahaha, this is funny. I have tons of projects lying around. I have my Deathwing to finish, my Belial to paint to my standard, I have still Tau I havent finished painting, I have started looking at a Lost and the Damned army (conversion, conversions, conversions...;-) ) and ORCS are coming out soon too. On top of that, a week ago I agreed to paint a 2000 points Chaos Dwarf army for WHF (while for this I get paid, and the models..classic, classic, classic, no TOP HAT sillyness, are fun to paint).
I also want to build a gaming board at home, a full ruined city after getting inspiration from a project log at warseer.
Maybe this is the curse of a true hobbyist...too much cool stuff and ideas to settle only on one, but ending up with so little time to even get started...

How many here actually buy an army, finishes that army before starting on a nother project?

My LATD I painted at night when My daughter wouldn't sleep(so look horrible) and are starting a repaint\wash ink fixes etc,WIP,My tzeentch are about as good as I get.(DPs I bought painted,The rest demons HQs termies inc 4 rubric squads now painted up) Space marines 200+ minis now all have the correct base colours for the elbow pads etc :) (now to start the fiddley bits). My khornite army took a bit of a sucker punch to the gut with the new codex (having more than 16 beserkers in anything just isnt wise. Bloodletters done, xxx amount of flesh hounds done) so most work on them is on hold (currently3 squads of 8 painted acceptably, the rest just basic colours WIP)I might find some reason to paint them in apocolypse or in a later codex (since they've singled out khorne as a potential future release in some of their talks) I'm currently going through a massive binge of painting all my vehicles again I'm going for a semi iron warriors generic to all my forces colour scheme of brazen brass, imperial purple black and boltgun off course..
Abandoned to the attic projects... my speeding lieutenant who was on pratchet like luggage. My stealer horde (70ish + 30 gaunts and 12 warriors) Last army in, last army painted, also suffered from falling sceneary and need a fair whack of glue.(I'm not to worried they cost me next to nothing off ebay and I might be able to lure in a house dad I know into the game by having a loaner army.
I'm passed peak (maybe due to the chaos codex, I haven't bought anything since I first saw it) but hopefully rather than a U shape it will turn out to be a WW shape :)

well this past week we cleared out the games room, getting it back into working order.

ive got out the hot wire cutter and some polystyrene and started making some terrain: first of all im working on an acid lake, with lots of islands, stone slab bridges and stepping stones. once ive cut all the poly il get the sand sorted and then i can slap on some paint (i also need to buy a bright orange cloth to cover the table, and some clear plastic to to base all the stepping stones in strips etc).

Kate and I are now in the middle of our 4th combat patrol (so far we drew twice and she won once, but she's winning this one already: Krak Missile took out the Chimera with a Glancing 6 on the first turn, Entangling the Command Squad, and one of the Infantry Squads got caught crossing no-man's land by the Bladestorming Dire Avengers 8O).

ive MailOrdered a bunch of bits for my longterm AdMech project (i was panic buying after i heard about them cutting stuff from the bits range) and i might put a couple of Servitors etc together soon (although i realised that i was missing a couple of pieces for the one i really wanted to build - i need a Zombie head and a Catachan arm - both of which i was sure i had some of left).

ive got back out my WIP AdMech Space Marines and dusted them off - once we've played some more games and got a bit further with the terrain i think il carry on putting them together (im about halfway through).

in a couple of weeks il be picking up the Moonscape Craters set, a box of 1KSons and the Techmarine boxed set (need his bolter arm for my Marines and the Servitors & other bits for my AdMech... although im not sure what to do with his body...).

oh and while clearing out the games room we found a bag of bits/sprues/models i had put together to sell... including 6 Tau Gun Drones (that we got free at games day), which i have now clipped off the sprues ready to be the first unit in a Tau Combat Patrol (all i need are the flying stands...).

so, a lot going on. it helps that Seth has a playpen now (rather than having free reign of the living room floor), is eating his tea a bit better (and quicker, with less fuss) and is sitting up in a highchair too (he watched a bit of one of our games for the first time, the other night). :D

Now this is it's own topic, I'll elaborate on the above.

First, the big issues: I've got over 2000pts of unpainted (and mostly unbuilt) Death Korp. The Chaos Warhound has an undercoat and some small dashes of drybrushing. I've got a scratchbuilt plasticard Valkyrie that has been waiting completion for well over a year.

And then I've got bookcases and boxes full of figures that need painting. Thousands of little faces stare despairing at me every time I sit at the PC. I'm sure one of the Chaos Marines snarls at me from time to time as I walk past.

I guess somewhere in the back of my my mind I'm subconciously aware of the classic Larry Leadhead cartoon strip about painting your last model. If you've never seen it, I urge you to commit it to memory:

http://www.larryleadhead.org/bonus_car1.html

Actually, while you're at it go read the archives. I think there's a bit of Larry in all of us ...

This thread.... MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!!

Im not the only one who would need to go to a deserted island for 6 months with no internet access only models to finish.

Well, where should I start?

Hi, my name is Martin and Ive joined Wargamers anonymous because the hobby has me in a tight grip which I cant find the power to break out from.

(Collectively: Hiiii Martiiin)

Currently Im shaping up my Speed Freaks who will soon become the vanguard of my Ork Army - the first models were painted and converted 6 years ago.... and I havent seen them since untill now :(
In addition Im working slowly on my guard - Ive been dipping my conscripts and finishing models here and there.
As well Im putting the finishing touches to a few Night Lords marines I had speed-painted for the team championships in august (can you imagine after 10 years in the hobby I didnt have a full painted wysiwyg 1850 points army before august 10th? lol...)
My Emperors Children army is on hold and will probably get disbanded save 1-2 squads which will represent eventual Slaanesh Icon toting marines in a standard Marine army + a few noise marines.
Similarly my Iron Warriors are on hold, as there is no reason to paint them in IW colours, since my night lords will be sufficient to represent unmarked chaos troops. I was playing with the idea of using Iron Warriors with regular space marine rules in order to have a purpose to finish the paint job, since I have a few squads WIP.
My khorne army is on hold... I might try out a berseker Rhino rush, but otherwise Ill prolly just use the painted berserkers occasionally and leave those unpainted ones to collect dust.
The parts that were to become Rubric Marines will stay on their sprues for some more years and the one assembled unit will continue to collect dust at the back of my shelf together with the painted!!! Lord of Change.
All daemons have moved to the back of my shelf and started their long winter sleep.

At least I decided to get rid of warhammer fantasy and allready sold Dark Elves completely!! Dramatically decreasing my painted/unpainted ratio :rofl Now this leaves only fantasy chaos, but I should be able to get rid of that too slowly, fortunately there isnt that much of it, since I have been using mainly demons that I had from 40k. But if someone would be interested in anything drop me a PM, maybe we can work something out.

This would leave us finally with death korps models, still packed, which were to become traitor guards but are currently---you guessed it--- ON HOLD! :D

One positive thing is, that I found the strength to NOT start new things lately and been finishing unfinished projects/models first - thats why Im a bit hesitant to do the obliterator/terminators :) right now
The other positive thing is, that my table terrain is 85% complete modelling-wise (I dont expect to paint that in this century at all, but who cares about painted terrain anyway, for playing purposes its basic "existence" is more than enough) and I was able to clean up my working table and the vitrine and cupboard with models and sort out unnecessary stuff and now have more or less order in my things! I even have a box for WIP models, as its terribly annoying to dust off semi-painted models or loose parts when the rest is allready painted

a little update: we've put the armies to one side for now, and cleared off the games table, and carried on making Terrain - still working on the Acid Lake stuff, using the hot wire cutter.

there'l be:
- islands of various shapes and sizes (including extra wide ones for the deployment zones)
- stepping stones of various sizes (which will eventually be organised into 6"/9"/12" strips)
- rocky outcrops (Impassable Terrain, jutting out of the islands/lake)
- islands that are breaking up/sinking (Dangerous Terrain)
- patches of rough ground/rubble/rocks (Difficult Terrain, to sit on the islands)
- stone slabs that will act as bridges

once weve finished cutting out and shaping all the polystyrene bits, il post some pics.

can anyone else think of anything we can add to the board? :?:
its meant to be in the middle of no-where out in the ash wastes (on an Imperial hive world), so nothing "man made" (except the acid, lol).

hopefully getting some sand on Saturday (1st stop Early Learning Centre, then Toys R Us... the beach will be a last resort :P) and some cheap paint.

cheers :)

If you are looking for cheap sand for your terrain, you should actually check out your lokal pet-store. Find cat-sand, fish-tank sand or any kind of fine-grain or course-grain sand you are looking for. When I build my first board, I went to my local pet-store, picked up a bag of sand and saved a bounch of money on it. And it is fine enough so that your models wont tip over.

It worked wonders for me. I don´t know what the cost would be in Wales, but here in Oslo it was one of the cheapes alternatives I could find... (and you get it in large quanta...)

No, it comes pretreated, ready to go.

Glad to be of assistance.. Like I said, I don´t know what the cost will be in Wales, but it sure saved me a lot. Anyways, I have had some prior modelling experience (used to work as an intern for a modelling company in Oslo) so I might be able to give you some other pointers on different materials and where to get it if you need anything else.

Edit: I just realized that it might sound like it was a modelling company with human models, but we made scaled models of buildings, cars, terrain...stuff like that...just to clearify...

didnt get a chance to check out the pet stores (been a hectic weekend), but i did get my sand: £4 for 10 kg pretreated fine sand (sold for childrens' sand pits), from the Early Learning Centre.

im gonna go try it out now. :)

cheers

~ Tim
EDIT - UPDATE: i tried out the sand, and despite being a little moist (the sand, not me :P) its worked out pretty well. im just leaving things til the morning to dry (its really cheap & nasty PVA glue - im sure they watered it down :x)

ive made a discovery while laying things out to dry: i miscalculated somewhere (probably because i didnt really calculate anything at all  ) and i have ended up making waaaay more terrain than i needed. 8O
the plan was to take up about 1/3 of the board with islands, 1/3 with stepping stones/bridges and leave 1/3 empty acid... but right now i reckon i could fill the board completly without leaving any gaps. and i still have one small island to finish off (one that is breaking up and sinking), another small one to make (the same), and some rocky spires to cut out and make. oops!

its not necessarily a bad thing, as it means we will have more variation in the terrain (as we wont need to use it all every time). ive also thought of a way of extending the board from 4' x 4' to 4' x 6' (:D)... although there might not be much point for Combat Patrol (as soon as one side starts to take the direct route to the enemy a large portion of the board becomes redundant as it is), but it will be good for the odd larger game.

il try and take some pictures soon. :)
