Talus, correcting flaws in forge world product since 2009

turns out the barrels for the assault cannon were... wrecked, wouldnt line up and were a wreck

did i mention they were a wreck?

now... ONE barrel here is a little out of line, but the rest are spot on! even the one down the middle!

so now its just sort of a minigun type thing :)

ImageImage

upside! its going on the one thats a little off balance, so the immense weight of the brass rods used for the barrel counter it nicely! :D

im going to see if i can work out some sort of cover for the barrels, cause honestly, that rogue barrel is bugging me, but i cant take it apart now, too many drilled holes and all that, so... plasticard to the rescue!

Talus, the fluff for Orks being green is that it is something in their epidermis that makes them green, I think you are right when you say they are plant based so its probably chlorophyll, but their blood is still red as it is iron based (as opposed to copper which is why Vulcan blood is green). I think the reason that all blood is red is, according to the fluff, all races, with the possible exception of humans, were created by the Old Ones to a similar template. Orks were made to be tough so there outer layer was based on plants hence the green colour, but underneath they are essentially the same.

ok, its still a work in progress, but its a hell of alot better, ie: no wonky rods :D

i took a GS mold of the end, pressed that into more greenstuff, took the plastic tip from a paint brush (what covers the bristles), cut a piece off, glued it to the inside of the end and pressed another piece of it into the GS. i then glued the rods to the end piece using the tube as a guide for everything to be spaced the same way, then pressed it into the greenstuff making sure everything was lined up properly

then i pushed everything into the arm and am now in the process of firming up the foundations :D

its longer, its heavier, and a hell of alot better than the original, so im kinda thanking forge world for crapping it up like always

cant beat a minigun, might try something similar for a terminator :P

ok, since i introduced the seekers, alot of holes have been poked into the story myself and timewizard came up with for them

now, here is the third revision! (or rather, the shortened version)

Talus, home planet to the Knights of Talus chapter Adeptus Astartes (black and gold livery)
Primarch is long lost (left? missing? not decided yet)

the chapter is lead by chapter masters holding the Primarchs name, the title is passed to them, where they give up their name and take on Talyn (kind of obvious i know)

after being killed in battle, a new talyn is selected, that decides they need to scale back on the planets they protect due to losses taken by the chapter

this really gets up the nose of several company commanders who are from worlds that will no longer be protected, so they leave

those who left, become the Sons of Talus, they protect the worlds abandonned by the Knights, and have built up their own little area of the galaxy

queue the passage of a couple hundred years

one of the inner circle (the chapter masters advisors) is going about his business reading some old books, and finds one covered in dust with the Primarchs seal on it, so he does what any nosey git would do, he reads it.

he finds a bunch of clues about where the Primarch may be, after talking with the other members of the circle, they decide to give Talyn two fingers, and go off in search of Talyn (confused yet? :P), they form themselves in the Seekers of the Knight, the Knight being the Primarch Talyn, they hope that when they find him, he can reunite the chapter and bring them back to their full strength yada yada -insert other noble cause here-

rough? very, it still needs some fine tuning, but its a hell of a lot better than warp storms sending two groups far across the galaxy (one of which back in time... hey, the warp plays tricks on the passage of time!) and them reforming into new chapters

ideas?

Unfortunately there were only 20 Primarchs created, of which we do not know anything about except that the Emperor was very unhappy about them when he found the, presumed they were destroyed/killed and their Space Marine units subsumed into the other 18 Legions (hinted as a reason why the Ultramarines were always so large in force).

As to where they could come from is that over the last 10,000 years there has been many new Chapters created from original gene seed, sometimes experimented on or combined between chapters in an attempt to improve them.

Why a Chapter may split, maybe a disagreement in ideology or lost in warp transit (Astral Claws and Tiger Claws 'think that was the name?'as an example in the Badab Wars history).

Maybe they have idolised a heroic Company Commander or a Saint blessed by the gifts of the Emporer.

But then this is all fantasy, so anything goes...

For my Space Marines, I have a Chapter based on the Imperial Fists but suffer the Black Rage of the Blood Angels called the Blood Fists (presume a mixing of Gene Seed to try and remove the taint!!).
Black Armour with Blood Red Fist icons (I was going to do Crimson Fists but could not decide on the right Blue colour and I needed them ready for a Tournament in1 month).

I agree with to a point with DaBoss re Primarchs, from a fluff point of view you could be on very shaky ground. As he points out there were only 20 Primarchs, 9 loyal, 9 traitor and 2 unknown. Where the ambiguity comes in is if the HH books are classed as canon as it mentions in them that the 2 unknown Primarchs and their Legions were disbanded some time before the HH, possibly for going traitor as is alluded to in one of the books (I forget which one), with the possibility of the untainted or whatever Marines being added to the Ultramarines as they rapidly grew in size around the time of the unknown Legions being disbanded. However the fate of the Primarchs is unknown and all the remaining 18 Primarchs vowed never to speak of their "Lost Brothers" again (the conversation discussing this takes place before Istvaan V). Of course in the past GW have stated the reason for the unknown Primarchs was to allow players to create their own Chapters based on them but they haven't said this since the HH books began to be published, leading me to believe that they are canon.

mark, I think the books you are alluding to are The Lightning Tower/The Dark King novella (where Rogal Dorn is walking past the statues of the Primarchs where two have been removed/covered up), and Deliverance Lost (where Corax is in the Primarch lab), which both have Primarchs discussing (or rather not discussing ...) the 2 missing brothers. I haven't had chance to read any HH books after Deliverance Lost so I'm not sure if any others have references to them

the books after deliverance lost got a little stale, i actually stopped reading the primarchs and fear to tread, it was just THAT dull...

so you arent missing much :P

as for the story, fine, we'll call the Knight the first chapter master

like you pointed out mark, they had two unknowns so people could make their own, i was just giving it a shot...

Yeah, that was why they were originally included in the fluff but that was however long ago, before the HH books came out which have obviously put a bit of flesh on the bones of it.

An idea I came up with once for a mate of mines Chapter was that they were made up of the few remaining loyalist Marines from the Traitor Legions after the HH. This was obviously seriously covered up who they were and the history Chapters founding was deliberately lost but the Librarians had begun to uncover the truth.

so funny thing happened today

messed up my hand pretty good! for future reference remind me to ensure that my hand is clear of the car door before closing it...

its only bruised, nothing too major, but can barely move it right now (it hurts that much), so i havent been able to pick up a paint brush like i'd planned

so i've been busy writing, which since around 95% of my communication is done by typing these days, was a bit of a shock to the muscles in my good hand, that i never use anymore :P

i've given names to each squad and special character! and i'd like some feedback on them :)

im telling you, since i started painting this has got to be the hardest thing i have done...

so, start with squad commanders:

tactical:
Bialar
Tesh
Ikar
Sazi
Torren
Netan

assault:
Keys
Orias
Varnak
Seelix

Devastator:
Voss
Anval
Bato
Braca

scout:
Enzo
Grodin

Terminator
Tayo
Nas
Rhade
Crais

Commanders;
Usiell - Master 4th
Galen - Master 3rd
Hunt - Master 2nd
Doran - Master 10th
Ares - SoK Champion
Solan - SoT Champion
Jolan - Techmarine
Orin - Techmarine
Ciphas - Techmarine
Saul - Terminator Librarian
Tigh - Power Armoured Librarian
Korben - Terminator Chaplain
Raath - Power Armoured Chaplain
Tyrol - SoK Banner Bearer
Zotoh - DD Banner Bearer

Venerable Dreads
Antico - Venerable Contemptor, Knights of Talus

whatcha think?
