Re: Rise of the Seekers

Well Imperial Guard for SGC is an obvious one.

But I was thinking more like SM for Jaffa. Take the shoulder pads off, and use putty to sculpt the armour around the shoulders and upper chest. Maybe using Sanguinary guard legs or possibly even chest plates. Give them all baldy SM heads and simply paint the skull caps on. The squad sergeants could be give heads from Puppetswar.eu.
Force leader could be a 1st Prime as a Captain. If you wanted to add a Goa'uld, simply use librarian rules.

I had also thought about using 1k Sons as the Warriors of Origine Use a DA veteran model for the Sorcerer, paint the robes grey, skin white. Give him a stave and book and you have a nice lil Prior.

Just some thoughts I've had.

yeah... alot more thought than i have had :P

i got as far as IG for SGC :D

what the hell, might repaint my guard in SG colours =D

wont be too hard since the only infantry i have is a command squad! everything else is armour >_>

now, hit a slight snag with the razorwing... seems my needle is bent! (before timewizard jumps in with a joke) my AIRBRUSH needle, so ive lost the pinpoint accuracy it had...

so whats on at the moment, is base colours, i'll have to clean it up by hand, and just to make it stand out a little more, planning a little freehand (namely the kabal symbol)

But...but...but... 8O Oh man! You just killed about 4 or 5 good, and I mean really good comments/posts.

And I have a solution for you, a new airbrush part, that you have been needlig me about for way too long. If I can breathe without hacking up my lungs this week, I'll get the requisite part off in the post to you.

I managed to catch up on your latest posts today, finally have been able to sit up for more than 5 minutes at a time (I've had a nasty URI for about a week now) and the suggestions on thinning down the paint seem okay. I've also read in the past about people using denatured alcohol to thin down airbrush paints.

This guy http://www.grimvisions.com/technique/ac ... irbrushing suggests;

My thoughts on thinning paints:

Acrylic paints are made up of an acrylic polymer emulsion(clear acrylic paint) and pigment. When airbrushing with acrylics you need to thin them somehow. If you were to add just water to them you end up stretching the acrylic emulsion to much. If you stretch the emulsion to much the acrylic paint has a tendency to crack and peel over time after it dries. If you think about it, what happens when you airbrush is you are spraying out tiny little droplets of paint onto the surface of your artwork. Water has lots of surface tension, if you have a lot of surface tension in those droplets of paint you get spatter. Spatter will cause runs on the surface of your artwork. After all you have a water trap on your airbrush, why would you thin your paints with water? You could use alcohol it has low surface tension. Some airbrush artists use windshield wiper fluid to thin acrylic paints. I have a hard time recommending this. Windshield wiper fluid contains large amounts of ammonia and alcohol these will evaporate, what you end up with is a very thin layer of acrylic emulsion that is stretched too thin.

What you need to thin your acrylic paints with is something designed for this purpose, airbrush medium. What airbrush medium contains is acrylic emulsion and flow aid. Flow aid reduces surface tension which reduces spatter and airbrush clogging and also retards drying time, which keeps the tip of your airbrush needle wet during use.

Airbrush medium would be this stuff; http://www.liquitex.com/airbrushmedium/

Where you might find this stuff over on that side of the pond is a mystery to me! ;)
(But over here is is available through amazon.com)

well look who surfaced from his manflu :P

i see what you did there, needling about it :P very clever, but way below par for you :P

the glaze medium is working quite nicely, and no where near as much shine as it had before

sadly though...

ive stripped the razorwing, the purple wasnt working too well

so plan B is now in effect ;)

Not the flu, I think that would have been less nasty!

Goes along with the way I've been feeling. Sorry to disappoint, but I wanted to post something before I got the brush off by people who put on airs! ;)
At least the meds I got from the doctor have finally stopped my coffin fits. My tongue is not longer painted and the cough syrup did a nice job coating my raw throat. Luckily, I only had to strip off my shirt at the office and the chest xray was clear. The head xray showed nothing, as usual.
This cold was a scourge to me, the pain in my throat so bad it felt like I swallowed glass splinters. But at lest I don't have any boils to be lanced.

And, what might that 'B'? :D

plan B is currently classified while i research methods of doing it ;)

as soon as tomorrow night if im lucky!

of course it could just completely blow up in my face (as most paint schemes do these days), so i actually make no promises!

but as a teaser, its something ive never tried before, and if done right, looks fantastic =D

part of it is also dependant on me getting the airbrush to work properly... so wish me luck!

Airbrush is a good idea!
since you nave purple highlights on the scourges, how about blended shades of pirple going from fairly light to deep purple!

i was thinking more like red

cause while i do indeed have purple paint, i dont have the mental energy to thin it down completely... besides, i lack a proper thinner, using pure glaze medium, or even 50/50 with water, just doesnt work very well :S

and on the feathered wings, black with assorted feathers in blue red and green (like you suggested)
