Hi all - This is my first project log - so i hope you enjoy:

The premise:
I went through a bit of an ebay addiction a while back and started hunting for cheap models that I liked, ratherthan needed for collections. I started to pick up a few bits and bobs of marines in terminator armour and it got me thinking about a painting project. I decided to collect and paint all the Space Marine heroes I could find in Terminator Armour. I have painted only a couple so far, but I'm gonna add them to this project as I go.

Your help:
What I want is only terminator armoured dudes - not just randomly all the special characters. I might add a few non-termies later as I find models I like. (I'm thinking of some chaplain models I love.) What I need is suggestions for any I haven't got on the list. So far I intend to do:

Logan Grimnar (Complete)
Lysander (Complete)
Commander Culln - red scorpions (Complete)
Interrogator chaplain in terminator armour
Librarian in Terminator armour
Belial (Captain in terminator armour)
Belial (Conversion - lightning claw option)
Belphegor (The chaplain from FW IA5 Siege of Vraks - a conversion)
Brother captain Stern (GK)
Marneus Calgar - (King of the strikes last!)
Njall Stormcaller

Chaos:
Typhus (Complete)
Abbadon (Complete)
Zhufor

Anyone think of any I'm missing?

I'll start the post with my latest - Grimnar. I'm particularly pleased with him as he's the first one i tried the new camera techniques out on.
(See my chaplain post in the painting section.)

He was a job of work - the base is all slate pieces and needed careful counterbalancing - there's coins and allsorts stuck under the base to weight it down! (Look how much of the slate and the model is offset over the edge of the base.) His cloak is scratchbuilt from a wolfrider cloak and green stuff as he didn't come with his own cloak when he came from Ebay. I am fairly please with the grey - mostly foundation paints. See what you think - as ever i'm open to comments. Cheers guys! I'll add more as I go!

il be honest, until i was quoting your post in this reply, i hadnt read that bit about the cloak (i skipped to the pics - im sure you can forgive me ). i didnt realise it was scratch built! (and thats a good thing )

personally, i think the grey is missing something. its not quite up to the same standards as the rest of the model (like the face! the pelt, the trinkets, the crux! etc ). i think it needs another shade, a narrower extra-highlight, or something. the bottom corner of his left shoulder pad, for example, seems a little bare/flat, colourwise.

on his right arm, that armour plate between his wristband and elbow joint, is there a highlight there on the edge closest to the elbow? i cant quite tell. if there isnt, i think it needs one. the only other spot i think needs a little more attention is the lighter grey patch on his left forearm.

its the few bigger grey patches that catch my eye, and draw my attention away from those gorgeous details.

thats my only complaint (and its not really a complaint at all... just - hopefully - constructive criticism). its far far better than anything i could paint, so feel free to ignore me (especially if the grey has more depth in those areas in real life than came out in the pic).

p.s. i think the "Hall Of Heroes" idea is a brilliant one. have you considered branching out into forces of the Inquisition? there is a great - OLD - Terminator Inquisitor Lord that would look fab painted up like Jaq Draco... (*drools*). he was still available last year, too.
p.p.s. i love that snow on the base - is that the GW stuff, or something else?

Yeah - Cheers! I'd totally forgotten abot Calgar - I've actually got him sitting on a bookshelf in pieces upstairs! I'll add him to the list above. I hadn't thought about Culln - I'll have to see if he comes up on Ebay though as I can't afford FW prices!

I'm actually not too fussed about the grey - I tinkered with the pics in CS2 in order to get them looking fairly realistic and not too garish. I think I toned down some of the brighter whites too much as the grey doesn't show all of it's highlights in the pics - although I did find one plate on his rear left leg that needs another lift..... so I'll fix that before it goes in the cabinet.

The snow is actually from another company - I forget the name now - but when I went to buy the GW stuff I went to a branch of 'hobbycraft' - not usually known for cheap prices. I knew the GW stuff would be the same price everywhere though. I picked up a pot of GW snow, and looked at the pathetic spoonful in the bottom of the tub that they were going to sell me for £5! I then noticed this other tub from a train hobby company. OK - it was £8 instead - bit it was a tub like the old fashioned sweet jars! Contains about 60 times as much as GW's! I fugured I'd probably use it eventually on som scenery or something - so GW lost out on another £5 due to their overpriced marketeering!

Not to be totally off topic but was it the Woodland Scenics?

The blade on the axe is some nice metal work

How about trawling around for some old sculpts? Fits the "hall of heroes" theme if you put names to them from the some fluff (and adds some "legendary models" to the collection).

Tempting proposition - I want to get through the newer range stuff first, but I do have a couple of the older models knocking around. I've even got the first terminator somewhere - the old beatle backed one. Hmmm - food for thought!

Thats really nice, I like the shading around the eyes. He's that bloke who if he talks to you in a bar you think maybe you should drink up and leave
The cloak is cool (Mr6 has a guardian squad all in alpine coats...got through most of my grey stuff)
Watch out if your getting cheap off ebay... the oldmarneus calgar model really is very static (the newer one tim points at is much better- but rules/wysiwyg vs your own standards isn't he wearing both termie\artificer armour..or is he sold in artificer armour sepereately?)
Don't forget the chaosy ones (for conversion opts or for a hall of villainy- abbadon and typhus (ahriman kharn huron fabius and the slannesshy fella don't wear termie armour)

I've been considering putting some anti-heroes in - I have a few chaos characters in termie armour -I've got a couple of abbadons painted up = one with his arm completely repositioned and that was a job of work considering his shoulder is cast into the main model! I think I'll keep the project to the imperial chaps first though - perhaps the bad guys can be 'part 2!'

I already have the newer marneus so he fits nicely in with the theme - although I'd love to get my hands on the original McCragge model - I used to own it but it is one of many I let go many years ago.

The one I'm gonna struggle getting, short of paying FW prices, is the Culln model. He rarely comes up on ebay and when he does he goes for more than GW charge!

That original was still available from GW Mail Order a few months ago. Give them a ring, they might still have some left.

The Culn model is nice (*lovingly caresses Culn in plastic bag in FW box*), just order from FW ffs

TBH, compared to the prices GW charge for their metal special characters, £9 seems quite reasonable for a FW model.

Compared to the prices GW charge 2 seater cars with big engines don't seem that much Fortuitously I buy crap and make it fair to middling- latest batch of purchases(= 1 Speeder complete, 6 Termies ( a bit crap really),8 Scouts, new gen, (1H bolter, 2 snipers, rest have bolters)1 chaplin, a full devaster squad of mixed up weapons (though fairly optimal e.g. no multimelta), A full 10 man tactical squad- newer plastics with heavy bolter and fist (I hadn't realised the mould lines had got so bad) and a spare bunch (combat squad size) came to £24 (inc p&p), (or less than 50p per mini+ speeder)So I've now got a maxed out battle company- bar 3 rhinos- curse you ebay and your ability to make incomplete junk rhinos still sell for a tenner (I don't want to commit over £5 for each)

KMB what are you talking about? Well lets not forget the OPs first post were that it was about painting junk lots superbly.(+ I wanted to show off that my latest buys had been quite restrained, my wife approves )
